Hi jtree,
Are you using an .htaccess file in this site? If so, please temporarily rename it. Additionally, do you experience the same issue at both the WWW subdomain as well as the main domain (http://www.yourdomain.com/system/ and http://domain.com/system/)?
Cheers
Greg

I don’t have an .htaccess file (I have view hidden files are so I’m sure).
Yes I’m experiencing the same issue both with the www and without.

Just to confirm, you have made only these additions to config.php, making sure there are no duplicates above or below:
$conf['admin_session_type'] = "c";
$conf['cookie_domain'] = ".yourdomain.com";Then you have cleared your browser’s cookies and cache completely, and are still getting a login loop?

Now that I’ve put both of those lines in the config.php it’s letting me login fine. Should I leave those lines in all the time?
I think it’s causing issues with my second site I’m running as I’m unable to view the second site when it’s offline and more importantly I’m not able to do anything with the publish tab of the second site (main site is working fine). It’s gives me a “You are not authorized to post weblog entries”. I’ve checked and I’m a super admin.
I’m guessing this has something do with the cookies not working on the second site?

The lines we added to config.php are overrides, so now you need to commit those settings to the database. Head to Admin > Security and Privacy > Cookie Settings and you should see your cookie domain override is present in the field. Click Submit to commit it to DB.
Then under Admin > Security and Privacy > Security and Sessions, set Control Panel Session Type back to the default, which is Cookies and Session ID. When you hit submit you won’t see a change because you’re still overriding it to Cookies only via config.php - but it did commit that setting to the DB.
At that point you can usually remove those overrides from config.php. Test by logging out, clearing cookies and cache, and logging back in. If it’s still giving you trouble you can override again via config.php and just use Cookies only in the Control Panel.

Ok, that worked. I’m still having the issues with my second site in MSM as I described previously. I’ve pasted below for reference:
I’m unable to view the second site when it’s offline and more importantly I’m not able to do anything with the publish tab of the second site (main site is working fine). It’s gives me a “You are not authorized to post weblog entries”. I’ve checked and I’m a super admin.
Thanks!

jtree, is the 2nd site working normally other than not recognizing you as a Superadmin? And to clarify, this also occurred immediately following the DNS change?
#24 / Aug 11, 2010 11:29pm
Other than that yes, the 2nd site appears to be working normally.
Yes, this happened soon after the DNS change. I’m not sure if it was working before the DNS change.

jtree,
What is your cookie domain set to on the second site? You may need to adjust that as we did for the primary.

Curious: Is it a ‘best practice’ thing to explicitly set the ‘cookie domain’ config items? I’ve not done this in the past, but am wondering if there’s some benefit from doing this?
TIA

It certainly can’t hurt trying. It’s recommended if you are using multiple or sub-domains, yes.

I’ve updated the cookie domain for the second site, cleared my browser history (cache, cookies, etc.) and am still having the same issue.

jtree, try creating a blank template on the 2nd site with only
{group_id}What number is shown when you visit the template?
