I would like to announce the release of a new custom Field type: Remote File Browser.

The Remote Files Browser is an ExpressionEngine 2 add-on that provides a Rackspace Cloud Files, FTP and Amazon S3 file browser for your ExpressionEngine publish pages.

Designed to be flexible, you can show all 3 file browsers at the same time through a tabbed interface, or only show one at a time. You can even give each custom field its own server settings, allowing you to connect to multiple Cloud Files, FTP or Amazon S3 accounts.

Use it as many times in a single publish as you need, since the built in Caching ensures that your costs are kept low since requests to Rackspace Cloud Files and Amazon S3 are kept to a minimum.

If you are worried about users browsing to files they shouldn’t? The Remote File Browser lets you restrict browsing to a specific Cloud Files container, FTP folder or S3 bucket. This means your users wont be browsing your entire Content Delivery Network, or FTP server.

When it comes to your templates, you just use the field name like normal without having to worry about whether the user selected a file Cloud Files, FTP or Amazon S3.  This makes the use of Content Delivery Network Files (CDN) a breeze, and its perfect for selecting HTML5 video sources or making software available for download straight from your CDN.

Available for purchase from Devot-ee at: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/remote-file-browser/

[UPDATE:  There is now a video of it in action on the Devot-ee page, and here]

Hey that’s pretty sweet.  I was just wishing for an addon for RS Cloud Files like yesterday.  Uploading would be nice.  *hint hint*  😊  Good work!

    Thanks Jeremy.

I have uploaded a video to the devotee page, so you can now see it action on the publish page.

Awesome video demo and this looked great (which is why I bought it) but it’s throwing a bunch of errors.

I’m running EE 2.1.0 with PHP 5.3.2 on an internal MAMP setup. Haven’t masked the CP or renamed index.

When I go to create a new custom field, it returns the following errors:

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

    Message: Constant PHP_CF_VERSION already defined

    Filename: cf_api/cloudfiles_http.php

    Line Number: 32

.... and continues to do this 20 times for different Constants all the way down to “Line Number 52” and then ends with the fatal blow:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class CF_Http in /Users/shane/Sites/dev.khc2/go/expressionengine/third_party/remote_file_browser/methods/cloud_files/cf_api/cloudfiles_http.php on line 63

I only have settings in the global settings for S3 (don’t use RackSpace and I purchased this for use with S3 but may use FTP in the future).

Hoping this is an easy and quick patch…  :cheese:

    Hi Shane,
I’ll be contacting you directly since Ellis Lab would rather not have these forums used for third party support.

Hi - I bought Remote Files Browser today, but am having trouble getting it to show the ftp directory.  I have tested the settings used in the fieldtype area and they are correct.

It looks like it is just trying to load but never completing.  I’m sure I am doing something wrong.

    Thanks for your help 😊

    HELP!!!

Are there some special member group permissions that have to be set for someone other than a SuperAdmin to see the file browser in the publish page?

We recently purchased this Add-on and are surprised to see that it is not available for use with Matrix?  You can only set standalone custom_fields as the type Remote Files Browser.  Am I missing something? Is this a planned feature?

Does this Add-On work with DropBox?

I’m having issues with RFB not working on certain computers.  It’s a Mac on my same network.  It will not work with FF, Safari, or Chrome.  Are there any security settings I should look at?

Also is there any word on dropbox functionality?  This would be HUGE.  I see the options for DrobBox in v1.6 but there doesn’t to be any settings.
