I’m having trouble installing EE 2.0.2 Beta, Freelancer License (Build: 20100430). When I run the install wizard I get the following error:

Your config.php file is unreadable. Please make sure the file exists and that the file permissions to 666 (or the equivalent write permissions for your server) on the following file: expressionengine/config/config.php

The file is there and I’ve checked permissions. I’ve tried uploading fresh core files, and the server wizard says everything is correct with the server. What should I try next?

Hi Colin,

Are you installing this on a local or remote server? Are you making any changes to the default installation i.e. above webroot?

I’m installing this on a remote UNIX server, and this is a standard installation which as far as I can tell follows the instructions explicitly.

It looks like a permissions issue, but they all seem to be set correctly…

Hi Colin,

Create a test.php file and upload it to your server with the following in it:

<?php phpinfo();

Then run it. What’s listed under the local column for each of:

1. memory_limit
2. open_basedir
3. safe_mode

Hi Colin,

The open_basdir directive is known to cause a host of issues (pardon the pun). Can you get your host to disable open_basedir and see if there’s any change?

I talked to my host, but unfortunately they won’t disable open_basedir. I installed EE2 locally on MAMP without any problems, so I’m going to assume my remote server config is botching the installation. Is there anything else I do to try to get this working? If not, I’ll go find a new host.

If the host won’t help, I’d find a different host.

In my httpd.conf I had this:

php_admin_value open_basedir "/var/www/myfolderpath/data:."

I then changed it to this:

php_admin_value open_basedir none

I then restarted the server but I am still getting this error too:

I re-installed my OS (CentOS) yesterday and did everything fresh again. I’m stumped on how to move forward. Any ideas?
