This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I’ve been trying to install our paid version of ExpressionEngine 1.6.9. Ultimately we want to install the MSM on it as well. Initially, I tried installing it on Ubuntu 10.04, then I downgraded php to 5.2, then I spun up a Ubuntu 9.10 image, all giving me the same error. Here’s the process:

    1. Fresh install of Ubuntu, with php5, mySQL.
    2. Configured single apache site for nowrocking.it (this is a test domain; EE will eventually be installed for several domains on this VM) /var/www/nowrocking.it/
    3. Created a mySQL DB called exp_nowrocking http://cl.ly/bd51970fbeecce2c29c8
    4. Ran install at nowrocking.it

    11. Permissions: http://cl.ly/d2ff46de0f5b5845b795
    12. (test.php is a php file that throw an error to ensure that I have display errors on)
    13. Versions http://cl.ly/04489198b9b90c689312
    14. Note, config.php is empty: http://cl.ly/f4de000b5e98cc3f0405

If you need anything else, let me know. I’m at a loss.

This is the latest version and build, correct? Have you followed the installation instructions, in particular set permissions correctly? What permissions does config.php have?

(Sorry for the delay, I didn’t have the email for this account set to me, so I didn’t receive your reply.)

Yes, this is the latest version and build. I followed the installation instructions to the letter, including permission settings (see Step 14, to reference that config.php etc are set to 666 per documentation: http://cl.ly/f4de000b5e98cc3f0405)

    Hi, andculture -

If you go via FTP to system/utilities/dbtest.php - copy that out to root, open it in a text file and fill in the top 4 variables, then visit it in your browser - what do you get?

Thanks for the quick tip, I forgot to install php5-mysql module, totally my fault. It’s installed, thanks for your time!

A pleasure, andculture.  That’s what the utility is there for. =)
