    Hello EE Gurus and Gurettes.

    I installed multi - site,
    enabled multi site manager,
    and created a new site.

In the SITES tab, when i click on the new site I just created it just takes me back to original site.

Did I miss a step? Not sure what to do.

    Let me know,
    V

    Hi, Vlad.

Which version/build of ExpressionEngine 1.6.x are you using? You can find that out at the bottom of any control panel page.

The current version of the 1.6.x branch is 1.6.9 and the build is 20100430.

What’s in your path.php for the second site?

Where do you want the new site to go? A separate domain, a subdomain? Did you follow the instructions in the docs on how to set those up?

Hi Ingmar, As always you are here to save me. :D

I was waiting to launch the main site live before answering your question.
The main site now resides under http://amplitudevibration.com/ right now it’s hidden behind a hideous landing page.

The secondary site will be a separate domain, living on the same server.

    When I add $site_name = ‘Site_Short_Name’; to the path file, I get

Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; No Preferences Found

    on the main site.

This is my 1st time installing it, and I think I read the directions. What did I miss?

    Thank you.
    Vlad

Vlad, to clarify, you need to add

    $site_name = 'Site_Short_Name';

to the path.php file for the secondary site. Can you confirm that’s the case?

Now I am very confused. As far as I am aware there is only one PATH.php file in my main folder. Both the main site and the secondary site would be sharing the same database. Very confused.

Where does this domains files live in relation to your primary domain’s files?

    Is it something like this?

    - system
    - second_site
      - path.php
      - index.php
    - images
    - themes
    - index.php
    - path.php

was i supposed to create a new folder, or was this supposed to be generated automatically by the multi site manager?

This is the part that confuses me.

The MSM doesn’t create any folders. Your secondary domain should already have a folder for itself if it’s already set up (if it isn’t, you’ll need to consult your host)

So, before even touching MSM, create a basic index.html file with “Hello World” as the contents, and get that file to show up as the homepage for your secondary domain. Once you have that working, the index.php and path.php files (per the the MSM documentation) should go in the same place your “Hello World” file was. Make sense?

I created 2 test sites. they exist and I am able to access them and make changes.

in my folder system (attached img of server side folders) i don’t have any folders meantioned.

is this something i should talk to my database guy about?

    vlad_i,

It doesn’t look like you have set-up your second domain yet with your host. Is that correct? This domain needs to be set-up under the same hosting account.

So regardless that you have your 2 sites set-up in EE control panel you alos need that second site to attach to a hosted site.

Next step for you is contacting your host to set-up your second domain

    Does that make sense?

    vlad_i,

I am not suggesting you are and apologies if I came across that way.

Usually if you set up another domain on your hosting account you will have another folder created in your root just for this new domain. Same for sub-domains.This doesn’t look like the case looking at your directory screenshot.

So If I had 2 domains on one account my root folders would look something like I showed earlier, where second_site is your second domains folder

    - system
    - second_site
      - path.php
      - index.php
    - images
    - themes
    - index.php
    - path.php

Where do you upload files to http://fs.bkkwebdesign.com/ ?
