What about Media Temple? I’ve seen lots of sites using/advertising it… How does it perform with CI?

Media Temple is good for PHP sites, but it’s not cheap.

I’ve been satisfied with Dreamhost. I’ve been using them for over 4 years. I did have some uptime issues initially but once I moved to their virtual private server, things have been much smoother. What I really like about them is that they offer a lot of flexibility. I’m not limited to a number of domains or a number of databases. I get shell accounts and have never had an issue with bandwidth or space. The support is the part that is lacking but overall I think I get a pretty good value for the price I pay. This is the longest I’ve been with a single host and I’ve been trying various ones out since 1997.

I have been using bluehost for a couple of years now. And i have never had any trouble with them. I can’t tell you about their support because i have never had to use them. Their packages suit you but dont suit everyone. Good luck finding someone

Been using BlueHost for about 4 years, they have the best tech support, in my opinion. I would highly recommend them, giving that you don’t require a dedicated box. They do have dedicated IP’s though (helps to not be blacklisted on a shared server when someone else acts up).
I have used ServerBeach in the past for dedicated. I was quite happy with them, although dedicated does run into a little bit of money…

I’ve been using BlueHost for a couple years. I was able to upload a CI site and get it running without much re-configuration. I like it, it allows unlimited bandwidth, storage, and domains, unfortunately you’re limited to 50 MySQL databases (not sure if this is still true).
A place I deal with uses MediaTemple for hosting, and that required a bit of reconfiguration to get working with CI decently. They cost more, don’t have cPanel, I think they’re running a modified Plesk. Pretty backend, but I care more about functionality!

I have also heard nothing but good things about hostgater. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about Host Papa? I’m kinda new to the whole programming and code development world and need all the help I can get. Thanks

I’ve been using Host For Web since 2003. The service alone is worth being with them. 24 hour support by chat or phone and they always fix any issues, make upgrades for free and simply do a great job. They also backup data regularly and restore for free when you do something dumb, like I did last night wiping out my entire DB. Luckily they restored from their own backups.

I surprised no-one has mentioned prgmr (http://prgmr.com/xen/) ... It’s one guy that literally runs the entire company himself, he closes off hosting if he doesn’t have any available and so-far I’ve had probably the best VPS I’ve ever had(slicehost, linode, rackspace). Typical DIY and there is no admin panel but if you don’t use one of those anyways it doesn’t matter.

No matter what service provider you use to host your web page or blog, you can speed up your sites performance by storing your files on Amazons S3 servers. I worked wonders for my blog.
