Thanks for passing this video along…. Great way to see the problem.
I asked a team member to take a peek at it tomorrow to see if we can replicate it. However with the new release today, we also changed the category interface. Any chance you can update to the newest version and confirm your still having this issue?
Thanks,
-Tom Jaeger
HI Adlix,
We have been unable to replicate this issue… Any chance you can check to confirm there are no console errors your running into?
ALSO, any chance you can update to the newest version of EE 7 (7.2.17 – there are some changes on the category interface in this release)
Thanks,
-Tom Jaeger
Hi Tom, site is latest version now. The problem is still there. I expected your answer already. The problem exists so long and no-one else reported it. LOG-files are empty. Have you got a hint where to debug? I tried to find, but missed the piece of code where the values are selected. Is there perhaps any join or field status required?
Thanks for your help,
Matthias
Hi Matthias,
I wasn’t able to replicate this on my install.
I wonder if this is related to the fieldtypes you are using on entry publish tab, what do you have in there? Also, can you check your browser dev console for any errors when you open this page?
Lastly, do categories show as expected on the front-end when using template tags?
Hi, I found the reason for the problem now. The tables categories and category_field_data have both a field group_id. In both tables are different group_ids for the same category. I think this happened on moving categories manually after an early migration. But I’m also not sure why this redundant group_id is necessary at all. Is there a reason for this or is it a relic? They should be always 1:1 right? Perhaps you can give a small feedback for me to know I’m on the right path.
Many thanks for your help. It kept me on debugging. 😉
Matthias
Hi Matthias - this is correct, group_id
in both tables should be same for same cat_id
.
While this is somewhat redundant indeed, large porting of categories functionality has been written years and years ago and relies on having both cat_id and group_id in both tables, and them being the same.
Glad you’ve been able to figure this out!
