I do have image manipulation active to create a thumbnail and I understand that the thumbnail will therefor not have animation… but it’s affecting the default upload as well. Even when I turn off image manipulation completely it will not upload the animated GIF correctly.
As I didn’t have the issue on the previous server, I suspect it has something to do with the server settings.. but I have no idea what to look for.
Did you compare the uploaded image on the server with the local one to see if they match in size? They should not if it has changed.
That will let you see if it has changed (which it should if it’s losing the animation).
Are you sure the server is not somehow optimizing the image on upload? Did you ask your server administrator or hosting service? They might be filtering files on upload.
Try uploading the same image without Expression Engine? FTP. Check to see if the behavior is the same. If it is, it’s not EE but something on your server.
Did you upgrade EE on the new server to a new version, or it’s the same as the previous server?
Thanks for helping out!
The animated GIF has changed in size after uploading via EE
Uploading via FTP works as expected: the animated GIF keeps its animation
I have contacted the hosting service, but they said I have to contact EE first..
EE version is 5.4.2, which is the same as on old server (although it could be that I updated EE on old server after I last tried uploading an animated GIF there). I definitely know it worked on version 5.3.0 though.
Is there a way to debug when image is manipulated on upload?
