What are you trying to do in fact?You are trying to install EE Core on/and MAMP.
Where are you trying to do this?
Onto a Apple Inc. Computer, like our case.
Which platform you are working onto?
Could not be other, than just Mac OS X.
Which version you have in use?
In our case is Leopard (10.5.2).
What is EE Core, but MAMP?
- ExpressionEngine Core is a flexible, feature-rich content management system that rivals Joomla, Mambo, Drupal and other open source content management systems, and is free for personal (non-commercial), or non-profit use only.
- The acronym MAMP refers to the Apple Macintosh operating system and to a set of free software programs commonly used together to run dynamic Web Sites or Servers. More clearly, it is an open source Web platform built upon Mac OS X.
III - INSTALL ISSUES / STEPS
1) Downloads (MAMP & EE Core)a) Download MAMP
b) Download EE Core
2) Install MAMP
a) Mount Disk Image - MAMP
b) Drag & Drop onto Applications
3) Create a New Database. (Into phpMyAdmin)
a) Enter into phpMyAdmin onto Web Server
b) Create New Database
4) Drag&Drop;EE Core data’s into MAMP “/htdocs”
a) Open EE Core folder, select all data’s
b) Drag & Drop into Applications/MAMP/htdocs
5) Install EE Core
a) Begin Install
b) Set Up Web Server
6) Enjoy EE Core
a) LogIn (UserName & PassWord)
b) Enjoy the EE Core Control Panel
IV - INSTALL ISSUES / IT SELF
1) Downloads (MAMP & EE Core)
a) Download MAMP
- Open your web browser and type the next address: www.mamp.de, you’ll be able to see the MAMP official web site.
- Now ‘cause you are on the start page, please focus your eyes on the “MAMP” and “Download Now” buttons and just click on it. I suggest to click onto MAMP one.
- You‘ll enter into “living-e presents: MAMP” page, read all the information from it and when you are finished, click on the “DOWNLOAD” picture.
- You’ll be redirected onto “MAMP & MAMP PRO Downloads” page, read the information, and than decide which package you need, click on it to download it. Our case is MAMP for (ppc).
- Wait till it downloaded, you’ll be able to see the progress in the downloads window. After that you’ll find the disk image of MAMP in the downloads folder usually.
b) Download EECore
- This time you need to type in the address of your web browser www.expressionengine.com, you’ll be able to open the ExpressionEngine official web site.
- You’ll be on the start page, now please focus your eyes on the Try ExpressionEngine and Download Free Core Version buttons. I suggest to click onto second button.
- You‘ll be redirected onto “ExpressionEngine Core - License Agreement” page, I suggest to read all about it and when you are finished, click on the Accept License and Download button.
- Now it will open the downloads window, please wait till it downloaded, you’ll be able to see the progress. The download application will unzipped the document and will create a EECore folder into downloads folder usually.
2) Install MAMP
a) Mount Disk Image - MAMP
- Now ‘cause you’ve made all the downloads you need, you find them in the downloads folder, is time to install them.
- Just make a double click onto your MAMP Disk Image to begin the mount application, you’ll be able to see the progress of mounting in it’s own window. After that, the mont application, will open a new window onto your screen, where you’ll find the full MAMP install folder.
b) Drag&Drop;onto Application
- Now you need to open the Application folder to copy/paste or drag&drop;the full MAMP folder into it. You’ll be able to see the progress of copying or dropping in it’s own window, wait till that window is closing from alone.
- Ok, now you have the full MAMP folder into your Application folder, because of that, make a double click on it’s icon to see inside. Click, to open, the MAMP.app icon.
- By doing this, in Dock will begin to jump the MAMP icon, that means MAMP server will open it, after, you’ll see the MAMP server window. The server it will open automat your internet browser, it’s icon will begin to jump in Dock. Now you have your local MAMP server online, onto your computer. Please focus your eyes on the “Host, User, Password” area, you’ll need to memory those three things.
- In case that the MAMP server will not open automat, just click on the “Start Servers” button, after you’ll see tow green points, click on the “Open start page” to.
3) Create a New Database. (Into phpMyAdmin)
a) Enter into phpMyAdmin
- On the MAMP “Start page server”, that’s is open into your internet browser, you need to focus your eyes onto the bar menu navigation, on that window, in fact you need to click on the phpMyAdmin. Clicking on it, a new window will be open.
- Now you are on the phpMyAdmin page, and you really need to focus your attention on the “Create New Database” area, in this area you’ll name your next database folder, we name it EECore, is our case. After introducing a new name for a new database, click onto “Create” button.
- So, you are done, you have now a new database folder into your MAMP server. A window was opened and is told you this “Database EECore has been created”
b) Create New Database
- Now you are on the phpMyAdmin page, and you really need to focus your attention on the “Create New Database” area, in this area you’ll name your next database folder, we name it EECore, is our case. After introducing a new name for a new database, click onto “Create” button.
- So, you are done, you have now a new database folder into your MAMP server. A window was opened and is told you this “Database EECore has been created”
4) Drag&Drop;EE Core data’s into MAMP “/htdocs”
a) All EECore Data’s
- Go n the downloads folder and click onto EECore folder to open, you’ll find all the EECore data into it. Now make a selecting of all that you see in that folder, after that you have tow possibilities: copy and paste or drag and drop into /htdocs folder. I use most of the time the second one possibility.
b) EECore into /htdocs
- You need to open the /htdocs folder to copy and paste or drag and drop all the EECore data’s into it, you’ll find it if you take this way: Finder/Application/MAMP/htdocs.
- Click onto and open it, you’ll see a blank folder, but not for long. Now is the moment to copy and paste or drag and drop, you’ll be able to see the progress in the copy window. After that the /htdocs will be full of EECore data’s, and this is good.
5) Install EE Core
a) Begin to install EECore
- Go back to your Internet browser and write this: http://localhost:8888, in the address area, the ExpressionEngine Installation Wizard window will open, just focus your eyes on the bottom of this page and click onto “Click here to begin!” button, after you read the Question they ask you.
- Now you are able to read the license agreement, after you did it, check to agree with the license and after click onto ”Submit” button. A new window will open.
- Here you need to write the “system” folder if you heaved change it, if not let it like it is, default is named “system”. This are the system folder that you can find it into /htdocs folder. Now just click onto “Submit” button to go forward with the installation. It will open the “Server Settings” window.
b) Set up the web server
- In the “Server Settings” window you need to enter just your e-mail in it’s area, the other areas, let it stand like they are, do not change nothing.
- Scroll down and you’ll be able to se the “Database Settings” window, You remember the start page of your MAMP server, oh! yes, in this window you need to enter into the Server Address area: localhost:8889, into Username and Password areas: root, the Database Name, you know it ‘cause you create it ones, our case is: EECore, the other checks and areas, let it stand like they are, do not change nothing.
- In the “Encryptions Settings”, “Admin account” “Localization Settings” windows, I suggest you to use your will. Your free, be happy about.
- Let the “Template design” window selected “Default”, you’ll learn after how to change it, if you really want.
- Now click onto “Click Here to Install ExpressionEngine!” button.
6) Enjoy EE Core
a) Log In
- Well, your done, you have installed EECore. And this ist sure because now you see the “Successfully Installed” window. Just focus your eyes onto “Control Panel” link, and click on it.
- The “Log In” window is opened now. In the Username and Password areas, you need to enter the Username and Password that you has entered into “Admin account”, you must know them, your will was free, you remember? Ok, after you have entered the Username and Password, click onto “Submit” button.
b) EECore Control Panel
- Ok, after you had have entered the Username and Password, and clicked onto “Submit” button. You were just a step behind from your first Admin Account on your own MAMP web server, even if you are not online on the www.
- The “Control Panel” window is now alive. You can call yourself a newbie WebMaster.
- Do your change preference in your Admin Account and Enjoy with passion EECore.
- Congratulation, you have done all the Installation, from 0 to 72OK’s.
