MetaWeblog API Client Setup

Instructions for setting up Clients using the MetaWeblog API

MarsEdit

# Go into the Modules section of your CP and install the MetaWeblog API module.
# After installing the module, click its name and you will be taken to the Module Control Panel. A ‘Default’ configuration is there by default. In the second table cell is the Access Point for this configuration.
# Start up MarsEdit. A panel will open to the side of the main window (Drafts folder is at the top). At the bottom right is a “+ - Edit”. Click the addition symbol.
# Enter your Weblog Name and URL for Weblog.
# It will now read your settings and will give you a prompt to Edit Settings. Click this.
# A panel will come up with information. Under Software choose ‘Movable Type’ (this selects the Movable Type API). For RPC URL enter the Access Point found in step 2. Finally, enter your weblog’s ID number. Your weblog’s ID can be found under Weblog Management in the Admin section of the CP.
# Click OK
# The window will close. On the main panel of the MarsEdit program is a button called ‘Refresh’. Hit that and MarsEdit should get the 10 most recent entries for your weblog.

Ecto

# Go into the Modules section of your CP and install the MetaWeblog API module.
# After installing the module, click its name and you will be taken to the Module Control Panel. A ‘Default’ configuration is there by default. In the second table cell is the Access Point for this configuration.
# Start up Ecto. If this is your first blog in Ecto, it will prompt you for your site’s URL. If this is not your first blog, you will have to click Accounts in the main Ecto window to entry your information.
# ExpressionEngine does not have autodiscovery, so you will have to enter your API information:
## System: Other (select API)
## API: MovableType
## Access Point: The URL that you got in Step 2.
# Click Next and it will ask for a username and password. This must be a user for your site who has permissions to view the Publish area *and* able to post to weblogs.
# Enter a name for this Ecto configuration and it will contact your site and make sure everything is correct. If successful, it will have you approve a few more options as well.
# Finally, it will contact your site and get a list of blogs to which the user has access. Post away.

Extra Help

If you are having a communication error still, there is a possibility that your webhost does not allow certain connections to the server. I would ask them and see if this is the case.
