LiveLook

Do you compose and edit your entries in “closed” status until they’re ready to be public?

Want to see how they’ll eventually look when they’re made public?

Here’s how to use Live Look:

1. Duplicate (and rename) the publically viewable template for the entry (example: comment duplicates to commentliveview*)

2. Go to your new template and change the exp:weblog:entries tag to this:

{exp:weblog:entries status="open|closed"

3. Hook up the new template to the Live Look prefs for that weblog or section:
Admin > Weblog/Section Preferences [select particular weblog] > Path Settings…
Find the bottom option: Choose Live Look Template, and select your new template from the pop-up menu.

Now you can preview your entry as it’ll look when you open it—before you open it.

. . .

*make your template name non-obvious, since the entry will be visible while still closed.
(depending on your circumstances, you may want add an if member_group  statement on the new live look template to guard against prying eyes)
