Hi

I’ve just received a request to do a quote for a potential client. The details are below. Also, would I be able to implement the design from a psd file that I will the supplied with? What version of EE would I be looking at as well as any plugins?

Thanks

Peter Mount

The admin user needs to be able to

- add, delete and edit the main stories/news on the front page

- create surveys and/or polls and be able to view results

- add podcasts and journals

- administer the forum area

- create new events for members to attend

basically paid members need to be able to

- register (pay the registration fee, through paypal?)

- once registered be able to be registration specific areas (forums, podcast downloads etc)

- be able to search and view a whole list of pdf journals (these journals would need to be indexed in order to be easily searched)

- be able to sign up and attend any event they want (thats created by the admin) - some of these events will need to be paid to attend and if this is the case the member would be asked to pay as the click to confirm attendance (once again paypal if cheaper)

- be able to partake in and view polls and surveys that the admin has created

unregistered viewers need to be able to

- View general information site wide but not have access to the hidden areas that are for paid members

- Be able to search the indexed pdf journals and view results but not be able to download the pdf until they have registered and paid the registration fee

- be able to view events (created by admin) but not be able to register to attend until they have become a registered member (paid fee) and then pay the attendance fee

Hi, Peter:

- add, delete and edit the main stories/news on the front page

Yes.

- create surveys and/or polls and be able to view results

Using a third party module of which there are 2 or 3 choices; the most popular I know of is LG Polls.

- add podcasts and journals

Yes

- administer the forum area

Yes

- create new events for members to attend

Yes, but there is not an out of the box RSVP/tracking system for who will attend.

basically paid members need to be able to

- register (pay the registration fee… can be through paypal?)

There are a few approaches to this, including the Simple Commerce module out of the box, depending upon your needs

- once registered be able to be registration specific areas (forums, podcast downloads etc)

You can use member group permissions as well as template access permissions for this

- be able to search and view a whole list of pdf journals (these journals would need to be indexed in order to be easily searched)

There is no built in way for ExpressionEngine to index and make searchable PDF files.  You could create a weblog to store information about the PDFs (a PDF per entry) and make that searchable.

- be able to sign up and attend any event they want (thats created by the admin) - some of these events will need to be paid to attend and if this is the case the member would be asked to pay as the click to confirm attendance (once again paypal if cheaper)

There is the simple commerce module, what do you mean by “pay as the click”?

- be able to partake in and view polls and surveys that the admin has created

I’d try out the Poll modules and see which suits your needs

unregistered viewers need to be able to

- View general information site wide but not have access to the hidden areas that are for paid members

Done through template access or member conditionals within the templates

- Be able to search the indexed pdf journals and view results but not be able to download the pdf until they have registered and paid the registration fee

Made some comments on this above

- be able to view events (created by admin) but not be able to register to attend until they have become a registered member (paid fee) and then pay the attendance fee

As mentioned, ExpressionEngine has no out of the box way to allow people to RSVP for an event and track that.

So you could do most of what you want, and build the rest using the Development API.  If you haven’t yet, the trial options may add some clarity to the decision making process.

Thanks Lisa

Can I assume EE will let me:

1 create a design template for use with EE after receiving a psd file from a designer
2 setup a forum on the web site

Thanks

Lisa,
is it possible to post an entry for a specific member not for a group by admin? is there a way to create a field which will show the members of a specific group?

Thanks
