First off I’m not entirely sure if this is a bug or a problem with my internet connection which is acting up a lot lately or intended behavior.

I noticed today when trying something out that if I follow these steps then something weird happens.

Step 1
Just one Super Admin user in the system. Stock install of 1.6.6 - 20081114
Created an entry and obviously the Super Admin account was set as the author in the Author drop-down.

Step 2
I created a new user, this one in the Members group and set their Member Preferences to allow them to be shown in the author drop-down list.

Step 3
Went back and edited the entry which is currently set to the Super Admin account and selected the new user from the Members group as the author.

Step 4
If I now go back into editing the entry I only get the user from the Members group showing in the author drop-down list where I would have thought I should see both the Super Admin user no matter what and the user from the Members group that I recently changed it to.

If I go into the Super Admin users account and allow them to be shown in the drop-down author list then they show up again but I thought that they should show up anyway seeing as how they are a Super Admin.

Is this just me doing something silly or just expecting something in my mind and I am wrong in what I am thinking?

Best wishes,

Mark

I wouldn’t call this one a bug, Mark.  It’s behaving as expected.  Granted- Superadmins are ‘super’ in almost every respect, but I’m not sure it would be desirable to have them effectively on the ‘multi-author’ list by default.

You might consider a feature request for it, but I know most of the sites I’ve worked on, it would be confusing for folks to have me showing up in the author dropdown.

Make sense?

Make sense?

Yes and no wink

I think what got me was because if you don’t have anyone else in the system then the Super Admin is automatically made the author on everything so usability-wise as I saw them as being able to be the author when I then added in a new user and they disappeared it confused my little brain a bit wink

No need for a Feature Request unless someone else wants this but I just saw it that if they are able to be the author when no-one else is in the system then something must be setting that somewhere and then when I added the new user they disappeared which I just found a little confuddling, but as I say I’m getting older so things do confuse me more and more day by day grin

Thanks for the confirmation that it isn’t a bug though. Please feel free to close this one out if you like.

Best wishes,

Mark

I’ve had this happen on a few sites too, where I expected to have the SuperAdmin in the drop down.

Don’t hesitate to post again if needed.
