So… due to an error on our server, some of you today received an outdated Download Account renewal notice. A glitch led to the resending of emails to users whose accounts originally expired between late August and today. Embarrassing, to say the least, and we felt bad. We hate spam! But queries were beginning to role in quickly as to what was going on, and to save Les and Lisa from replying to these emails all day, we decided to send out an apology email to those that received the errant duplicate notifications, letting them know that no, their account hadn’t just expired again, please ignore it, and accept our humble apologies.
It’s a Monday, so of course this wouldn’t work as planned. Let’s just say that our mea culpa resulted in spamming these pour souls worse than the original error. The egg’s on our face, we’re terribly sorry, hope that you forgive us, and we have chastised the server gremlins which led to this in the first place.
Derek, it was almost as odd as that last email-exchange about the ‘expensive sql-queries’ blog-entry.
As much as i thought THAT was a coincidence but appropriate, i had an EE-account expiring today and was thinking the account-renewal-apology-mail-bomb was a sign i had it coming.
Funnily enough, I once sent out an email campaign set to 20 copies each by mistake. So if I see duplicates I always just assume someone had a day like ‘Black Friday’ as I’ve come to call it. And I pity them.
it was really lovely to have received your touching emails! I hadn’t had an email in weeks, and I was feeling lonely and kinda blue… a real hangdog feeling of having offended my contacts. So the 50 emails you sent made feel popular again… at least for one day… Thanks for making me feel like a King for a Day!
PS looking forward to receiving your world famous Fruit Cakes.
I got 6 copies of the apology. But thankfully was able to forward these onto 12 of my contacts, thus not breaking the chain. I get to move my name up a spot on the list, am not breaking the curse, and can’t wait for good things to happen!
I have several licenses for EE, so I assumed I just got an email for each! I figured you had to email EVERYBODY about the glitch; I applaud you for at least attempting to only notify those affected. Apology accepted.
