I won’t go into details of why I think it was harsh, if you want a critique, though, let me know - here or privately.  I always like to know when people think I’m being insulting, because sometimes I’m innured to my own wit… yea, that’s it. wink

Brendon - get a trenchcoat or backpack.  Food becomes a LOT cheaper. wink

I live in a college town so I’m not sure how that effects prices, but in NY it never cost that much, but I go when I can find free parking etc, and I bring food with me.

And I don’t have kids.  Kids are expensive. wink

I’ve not been to disneyland of any sort yet, that’s one of my goals.

Brendon, I can see why people expect you to work for free.

However, I don’t see why pMachine should be free—that’s why I paid for it earlier.

What’s wrong with working for free?

tree, I’m sorry you feel slighted by how things were handled with pMachine Pro.  It wasn’t feasible to make the upgrade discount offer open-ended and we felt that two months was a sufficient period.  Purchasing the upgrade shouldn’t have taken more than 5 minutes of time and you certainly weren’t obligated to actually perform the migration to ExpressionEngine right when you purchased the upgrade; that could easily wait until you had sufficient time.

Regardless, it’s all sort of a moot point now, since the upgrade wasn’t purchased.  You can continue to use pMachine Pro if that works for your needs; just because it has been discontinued doesn’t mean it can’t be used.  If you decide that you’re going to move to a different platform then that’s your choice.

Anyway, this discussion has strayed way off course, folks.

This thread was useful, it reminded me of how stupid I am. I forgot to upgrade my pM also. Dang!!!!!!!
—————
The trouble with any kind of time period is if a person (I’m generalizing) doesn’t act upon the email notification immediately, the notice gets buried in ones email archive never to be seen again. I remember clearly the notice, I remember clearly (now) I couldn’t deal with it right then, would do it tomorrow and obviously didn’t…Crap…:-(
—————
The worst part is I promised to remind a client (a pM user) to upgrade before the expiration date…this is going to cost me I’m afraid.

Lisa, there’s nothing wrong with working for free, when it’s your own choice.

Extending the upgrade period might be a wise business move.

I want your parents to adopt me, I’ll find you a real nice new home. It may be under a viaduct, but it’s really comfy.

My parents are vagabond retirees tooling around in a motor home. It may be under a viaduct after all.

I am not involved with the policies here on upgrades, but please keep in mind that an upgrade price had been available to pMachine users since EE was released over a year ago, and there was even a steeper discount offered for a couple of months after the announcement that pMachine Pro was being retired as a product line, so there actually was more than a year to take advantage of a discounted upgrade price for moving from pMachine to ExpressionEngine, not just the last two months.

Did you actually contact sales here at pmachine.com and asked them directly instead of here in the support forums?  First place I always ask companies about pricing, upgrades, special needs is the sales department, not the support forums.  Does not mean they can help in all cases, but again getting angry at the support staff on a non technical support matter is generally not the way to go in my opinion.

Keep in mind Pmachine rocks.  I have used both Pmachine and Wordpress, I have since moved the Wordpress site to Pmachine.  If you are running short of time, why not just keep your site on Pmachine. Pmachine is running some of my sites just fine and I probably won’t switch them for a long time.  Porting your site to any different content management systems still take a ton of time, and when you make the move you will find other limitations.  I am also sure there will be more upgrade deals in the future, just wait for them.
