Hey guys .. i’m new to EE, and from what i can tell, this looks like a very good package to use. I just have a couple of questions regarding functionality built in, or through plugins/extentions that i would like to find out before i can get this purchased for our use.

The general idea of the site im going to create is a CMS to host a variety of media (images, video) that i would like to be taggable and searchable. So for instance, i would like to upload say 100 images, tag images in the style of image that they are (grunge, tech etc) and then be able to run a search and have it return a gallery of those images.

Is this something that is possible ? Or would a post need to be created for every image, and have those posts searchable, and end up returning a list of posts.

I would like to eventually have thousands of images in the database and be able to auto generate galleries based on tags.

I think the rest of whats going in the site, blog posts, other content etc an be handled no problem using EE, i’m just curious if the gallery creation can be somehow handled. It would be nice to be able to have it easily managed and that many people could contribute to adding images and posts.

Hope that made sense ... 8)
thanks

Welcome to EE!

There’s nothing there that should cause any major head scratching you’ll be pleased to hear. The EE Tag Module might be of use.

For the content and what you want to do with it I would suggest using Weblogs rather than the Photo Gallery module mainly because that give you a lot more flexibility with searches and display.

Thats great to hear ... thanks very much for the reply !!
So would each image be imported as its own post ... or can you upload multiple images at once, tag them and then add others down the road as needed ?

And would searching through the images be able to display multiple images per page, rather than a list of results that take you to a single page to view the image.

thanks again

The Photo Gallery lets you bulk import images, but that isn’t an option (afaik) if you manage images with weblog entries. As far as search, that could work however you want. The weblog entry search results functionality (assuming you manage your images with weblog entries) in EE gives you access to all of the entry data for the results, so you could display a thumb of the image, as an example.

I would recommend using a weblog for this - that will open up the search option for you and give you greater control over the layout and output.  The tag module would be a great tool for you, or you can use categories.

ExpressionEngine, as Ryan and bluedreamer said, can definitely help you out with the project as you’ve described it.

Why not Try out EE?
