Hello all,

Recently I needed to format my computer and backed up my EE website.

However, what I did not realise was that, even though I was able to save the templates, it did not save the weblog and webfield records. I also noticed that it did not save configuration settings (plugins, upload directories, members, general configuration, etc) for EE.

Is there a better way to fully back-up EE?

Kriz:

While it’s not exactly on your topic, you can apply the principles from this KB article.

taufiq:

Your server paths are probably not setup correctly.  Even though the control panel looks bad right now, you can get to where you need to go:

CP Home ›  Admin ›  System Preferences ›  General Configuration

You probably need to reset the “Theme Folder Path”

HOpe that helps,

Sorry,

Poor choice of words on my part.  You need to verify the full server path to your themes folder on the new server.  If you can go to CP Home > Admin > Utilities > PHP Info and look for the “DOCUMENT_ROOT.”  Make sure it is correct.

Or, see this KB Entry for more info.

Greg, thanks for pointing your knowledge base article. However, its a bit unclear on step 1 where it says:

“1. Make a copy/backup of all the files on your site”. Does this mean every file in the system folder or just the template files that constitute the site?

Second, by following this back up procedure, will this save the weblogs, category fields and weblog fields? I am unsure, because the article did not mention these anywhere. Im guessing this information will be stored in the database, if not mistaken.

Hoping to hear from you soon

kriz, i hope this can help u,

i was move my ee to new server,
first, copy all files did mean, not only template but, all files in your public html.

second, to save weblog, category fields, and weblog fields, u must backup your database with backup tool such as phpmyadmin, and then import your database to new server, thats point will save your weblog, weblog fields, setting preferences, and other about database in your ee,

and the final step,  Open your system/config.php file on the new server via FTP or similar.  Edit any information necessary such as your database connection information. also Open up the ExpressionEngine Control Panel and update any necessary path or server settings, such as path setting, and url..

i hope this help u
-regards cheese
