Sorry for the nasty delay everyone.
I know, I should have done this much sooner but just haven’t had the time.

I’ve updated the TinyMCE integration for EE v1.2.1 [20050123] and I wanted to ask for pMachines approval
before I post any code segments here, as it contains snippets from cp.display.php, cp.publish.php and cp.publish_ad.php.
The solutions is all thanks to MaryE!

I’m excited to see this. How does it work with Image Upload? Can it be done with little to no clunkiness?

The pMachine folks approached me with another solution for this,
but they haven’t decided what route to take yet, so I’m still waiting.
Sorry about the radiosilence!

Anyone at pMachine care to clue us in on the feature set of a WYSIWYG editor and a possible time table? Is this a 2.0 feature or a 1.x feature? Or a module?

I really need WYSIWYG soon for a new web site we’re building, so I’m going to try to glue XStandardPro onto my pMachine install. But I really hate the thought of reinventing the wheel. If someone is already working on an official pMachine solution, I don’t want to make an inelegant kludge.

Dan Lovejoy: I’ve already got a working version for EE.
I’m waiting for the pMachine folks to work out their direction. Sorry.

Sorry if that came out wrong. (Looks like it did)

I certainly don’t feel entitled to this feature or the work of other folks for nothing. I just want to know the direction of the project so I don’t go off half-cocked and waste a bunch of time reinventing the wheel. Wtih my luck, I’d pull out my hair, spend days kludging it together, then pMachine would announce 1.3 with WYSIWYG incorporated! Anyway, I will gladly pay for the product if that’s how you (and pMachine?) decide to package it.

(By the way - I didn’t mean pMachine install, I meant EE install. We run EE exclusively)

If you need another test installation, I’d be glad to install it in our EE for you.

On that note, pMachine folks - the level of service I’ve recieved from pMachine is simply put - stellar - the best I’ve ever had for the least expensive server software I’ve ever bought.

We moved away from MovableType because it was going to cost me $1,000 and be pretty limited even so. That’s really inexpensive for server software, but I couldn’t justify spending $1,000 of our students’ tuition money when there are competing products with essentially the same features for so much less (or free.)

When I bought EE, I thought I was making a sacrifice - somewhat of a downgrade - to save money. I couldn’t have been more mistaken. The EE product really shines. Our template structure is elegant and very easy to maintain. The update cycle is fast, and the support, as I’ve already written, is unparalleled.

Please feel free to refer prospective customers, especially higher-ed customers, to me. I am in your debt.

Is anyone at pMachine willing to share the status of WYSIWYG in future releases, OS_Andy’s TinyMCE EE solution, or anything else related to WYSIWYG?

I know there has been concern about quality control in the past - I just want to know if it’s on the roadmap, or if we need to start from scratch. We need to get our site up very soon.

No idea on the official front, by my understanding was Fcdeditor editor has been integrated - Yves MARTIN wrote up a how-to here]http://www.pmachine.com/forum/threads.php?id=29249_0_26_0_C]here[/url].  If it’s a critical issue, seems pretty doable.

Andy (or someone else)

It seems that the hack you once published (Tiny_EE) does not work in EE 1.3. I placed the code to the same place in cp.display, but Tiny_MCE get not activated in the Edit page of EE.

It is very important I get this WYSIWYG (or another) working in 1.3

Any ideas or suggestions?

I would love to see a WYSIWYG editor as part of the core EE code. Perhaps this will happen in 1.4

Yes, that would be great.

That would rock. To me, editing raw html code feels like something from the 1980s.

One of the great benefits of the EE stand-alone entry form is that you can integrate a WYSIWYG editor into it without having to hack the EE application files. There are some anomalies I’m seeking to resolve to make this fully functional on my site, including:

- Image upload features for the stand-alone form are not in 1.3, but should be added back in very shortly, per Chris.

- Getting the EE formatting buttons working with the integrated WYSIWYG editor (per this thread.)

- Getting Submit to work correctly with the 1.3 stand-alone editor form, per this thread. (This may be an anomaly specific to my installation.)

I also need to find out how to easily load a previous post into the stand-alone editor for updates. Is there control-panel support for this yet?

As always, the fantastic EE support on this forum is making it possible to move forward on resolving these things.

The questions raised in the threads I quoted in my last post aren’t yet getting responses. It may be that the stand-alone form isn’t yet quite ready for a WYSIWYG editor. It seems very close to being there, though.

For myself, I"m not going to hack it in. I"ll just wait until the team adds it to the core code.

That’s been my strategy up until now. But I’ve just gotten tired of editing html and textile codes. I would even put up with hacking it in at this point.

Putting it in the stand-alone form wouldn’t even be a hack; the stand-alone form is there for us to do whatever we want with.
