Hi, PrecisionIR - you are a build behind, and I’d like to ensure that you update to the latest build before we continue testing.

Also, can you check your config.php for this line:

$conf['forum_is_installed'] = "y";

and let us know if it’s there?

Where can I get the latest build? We were given the software less than a month ago (2008-07-29) and this was the build we were given.

My config.php did not have that line. I added it and now everything appears to be working. What did I miss during the installation? Was I supposed to manually add that at some point? I only ask because - if this installation is successful and we are able to create a working pilot of your software - we are hoping to do many more installs of this product. So I need to understand what went wrong as well as how to right the wrong for future installations.

Thank you so much for all of your work in helping us to get the forum pages up and running.

The latest build, as of today, is 20080808. You can download it from our site as always.

No, installing the forum module should normally take care of that.

I suspect that the reason it was not in your config.php is that your config.php was not writable.  If config.php was set to 666 then the Forum Installation should have added this to your file.  So, I would double-check that as you do want to keep it at 666 permissions, which is noted in the installation documentation for ExpressionEngine itself.

In any case, your forum is working now and you’re all set?  I want to make sure that you understand the process so this is easier for you going forward!  Thank you. =)

I thought we were running ExpressionEngine, not ExpressionEngine Core. There is a warning on the download page that says:

“Please do not upgrade a full version of ExpressionEngine using EE Core. It will break your installation.”

I want to double check that we are using the Core “lite” version before I download this and install it.

Thanks

Yes, you are running the “full” version. You need to login with the user name the license was bought with to access this version.

Thank you. That makes perfect sense. After we finished the install of EE, we took write access away from the local files for security reasons. It sounds like we need to keep write access allowed and never deny write access. That would explain why the forum installation had issues. Thank you for the explanation.

It looks like we are all set to move forward. Thank you again for all your help.

Ah, yes.  The installation documentation includes a list of files that need to be writable.  config.php is one, and you need 777 on the cache directory and the image directories that take uploads.  Without that you’ll run into problems, especially the cache since the others receive warnings due to human triggers.

[Edit]: Or the windows equivalents of those permissions. =)

If you have any other issues, please start a new thread, and we’ll be happy to help out. =)
