Hey I am trying to install the core engine and everything was going fine (I was following the video tutorial) and when I got to the end and pressed “View Site” instead of going to the “Kiwi Green” site template like in the video it came up with the following error message

Error

The following tag has a syntax error
:

{exp:mailinglist:form}

Please correct the syntax in your template
.

How can it have an error already, I literally followed the instructions step by step and have not done anything else!

The site at the minute with the error message is here

http://www.partybeforeprofit.com/index.php

Thanks in advance for any help, I am eager to get on with learning Expression Engine after reading so much into it.

Cheers

The “Core” version does not come with the mailing list module. You will either need to use the full version of EE, which does add a number of modules, or remove the mailinglist tag from your template.

Thanks for the reply.

OK I took away the following code on line 633 of the Kiwi Green php file

{exp:mailinglist:form}
<p><input type="text" name="email" value="" class="input"  size="20" maxlength="100" /></p>
<
p><input type="submit" value="submit"  class="submit" /></p>
{/exp:mailinglist:form}

It still reports the same error though.

I would have thought the introduction video for EE would have made light that it wasn’t geared towards a core installation as I presume someone trying it out for the first time would be watching that video and doing a core installation just to give it a go.

What should I do now, not bother using the Kiwi Green template or try something else?

No, it’s still there. You did edit the template in the “Templates” section of your CP and not the actual PHP file on the server, right?

OK I found that comment again on lines

895

1196

1449

Removed them all but it’s still coming up with the same message?

Sorry we replied at the same time.

Um no I didn’t, I edited the file on my server. I guess I did the wrong thing then.

Ok I worked out how to edit the template from CP, restored the php file on my server and deleted that command in the template from within the CP and it now works!

Thanks so much for your help, I’m off to have a go with EE.

In a weird way that mistake has already let me get to know the program a little better cool smile

Hope this post helps someone else out in the future
