Hi

I’ve just installed EE to a live server, and I keep getting disconnected from the Control Panel nearly every time I click on a tab. Is there any setting I am missing where I can specify the length of the session ?

Thanks

Settings Control Panel Session Type to ‘Cookies only’ in CP Home ›  Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Security and Session Preferences seems to solve this.

Sessions run for 2 hours past the last page load- so it shouldn’t be kicking you out like that.  And if it is, cookies might as well.  If you have a revolving IP/firewall issue and get kicked out w/cookies?  Might try turning secure forms off in ‘Admin- System Prefs- Security’ and see if that helps.

Give it a bit of testing, and if you’re sure all is well let me know and I’ll close it out.  Don’t want to until I’m sure it’s solid for you. wink

I don’t get disconnected anymore, but the CP is acting weird… I’ll try what you suggested…

It doesn’t help I still get disconnected every 2 or 3 clicks, it makes the CP unusable…

How about going back to Cookies only? Does that help?

Are you behind a firewall, by any chance?

If you log in from a different location, do you still have the same issue?

Unfortunately it still does it, it must have to do with our live server then (does it since we’ve deployed live)... how strange !?

Let’s see- leave secure forms off and in ‘Admin- System Prefs- Security’ turn off require IP as well.  And let me know your cookie settings- also in ‘System Prefs’.

Ok,

My Cookies settings are : Accept Third-party cookies, until I close Firefox

I’ve changed :

Require IP Address and User Agent when receiving comments?  to ‘NO’ and
Process form data in Secure Mode? to ‘NO’

This seems to have fixed it, I have not got disconnected so far.

I had tried changing “Process form data in Secure Mode?” before, so I guess it is changing “Require IP Address and User Agent when receiving comments?” to ‘No’ that fixed this ?!

Anyway, thanks a lot!

Hm- it’s sounding like it.  (And IP is involved with the secure forms check as well.)  Hm.  Don’t know why the server would be responsible, though.  Usually it’s a firewall/router/isp issue on the side of the client.

Secure forms/ip checks are nice ways to help reduce robot spam.  Might be worth talking to the host/server guru- see if they can spot something server side that might have been causing the issue.  But there isn’t a problem w/running w/out the ip checks.  Just may get more spam hits than otherwise.

We good to close this one out, or do you want to poke it w/the host a bit more?
