Embedded Flash won’t load

Hi,
I’ve embedded a Flash movie but I think I need some help getting it to load. Looking at the page source, I can’t see anything wrong. Copying the src of the movie into the browser starts the movie fine, it is just embedding it in the template that seems to be the problem.

Here’s the page: http://www.mrportman.co.uk/index.php/mrportman_v4/article_flash/tree_making/

Is there an issue with EE and embedded Flash, or have I set it up wrong? I’d be really grateful for any help,
Clive

Is the actual movie in the swf, or are you passing variables to it via xml or something like that?

Also, in your hosting setup, does using http://www.mrportman.co.uk/... versus using http://mrportman.co.uk/... matter?

Thanks for the reply. The movie is in the .swf so nothing needs passing to it. The movie itself can be viewed working if you use the url contained in the page source for the file. The hosting setup does not require me to use the www prefix, so it isn’t that.
Any ideas? I’ve remade the page without EE here (http://www.mrportman.portman2.com/flashtest.html), and it doesn’t work there either, so maybe it isn’t an EE issue, but something I’ve missed in the embedding of the movie.
Thanks,
Clive

Try prepending flash/tree_making.swf with a slash, like so:

/flash/tree_making.swf

Try using SWFObject instead of AC_run_Content.  Are you familar with it?  It’s a lot less troublesome.

Otherwise, it must be how AC_run_Content is loading the swf file.  It pulling something, just not the right thing.

When you publish from Flash and generate a html file, does it play fine from there?

I’ve had a quick look at SWFObject and I think I’ll go with that, perhaps trying the SWFObject2 version. Is there a reason you linked to the 1.5 version, or should I just go with the latest? In response to your last question - yes, it plays fine then; it’s just when fitting it into my own page that I have a problem.

I’ll look into SWFObject properly in the morning, so thanks for your help.

Not really.  I really haven’t had a chance to look in to 2 yet, but I do know 1.5 fairly well.

If it works fine from there, then it sounds like a path issue.

In the source, I see you have set ‘src’, ‘/flash/tree_making’, shouldn’t that be ‘src’, ‘/flash/tree_making.swf’ ? (add .swf)

Wolferey - that’s me experimenting. Neither work, but I had noticed that when I publish it in Flash CS3, the src parameter in the script misses out the .swf at the end. It isn’t that, I’m afraid.

I might be wrong on this one but a very quick look at your page and what is loading into it showed me that the page is trying to load this :

http://www.mrportman.co.uk/index.php/mrportman_v4/article_flash/tree_making/Tree Making.swf

That file obviously doesn’t exist so I am thinking that if you provide the full URL correctly as it should be to the src=”“ parameter then it might start working?

Also definitely better to use something like swfobject as it is a lot easier to work with.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Mark

Did that work for you?

Seems like something looks different now?

Best wishes,

I am having the same problem and I can’t figure it out. The flash on the homepage works perfectly but the flash on the products page is not playing? Also, If you go directly to the .swf file on the server it works.

The site is not yet connected to their real domain but the page with the problems can be found at http://74.220.219.55/~clavelco/index.php/health-and-beauty-products

Thank you for your help.

Likely a path issue to the swf.  Try swfObject.  It’s easier.  wink

i have always run into issues with flash working in a dynamic environment and as has been stated above it is almost always related to a path issue in the embed method or xml.
