Hi folks

Just completed the site for the Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership at http://www.lbsafetycameras.co.uk

The google maps which show the camera locations use a kml file to display all of the markers.

Hope you like it.

Hi Ken,

Nice work. Really like the integration with the Google Maps API to show the camera locations.

How long did it take to get the site all done from start to finish then?

Best wishes,

Mark

You seem to be missing a forward slash for your link to ‘Cameras’ on the breadcrumb navigation. It is returning a 404 as the link reads ...co.ukindex.php/...

Good work.

Mark - thank you. The site was done over two months but I’d say it was three weeks work all told. A mate of mine, David Healy, was a big help in fixing some kml issues and sorting out the navigation list.

That’s a useful and informative site!

Mind you they’re really “speed” cameras aren’t they wink

Thanks bluedreamer, but I can’t possibly comment!

Christopher - what do you mean? I haven’t used Twitter for ages…

The twitter comment was directed toward Adam.

And I did check out the site. Kinda cool for a mostly informative site. Do the people that live in a country with these really not know much about them though? They keep trying to put these up in Iowa, but for the most part we’ve been successful in fighting them.

I personally hate the idea of cameras everywhere, since they don’t really seem to be stopping knife wielding hooligans in the UK. I’d rather not give up that bit of privacy, but then I also like to speed (and tend to do “rolling stops” at stop signs).

You should put up a forum, see what kind of comments you get. I bet they would be fun to read.

kwgray - having looked in more depth at the way you have produced the maps I have been digging through the Google Maps API for the past 24 hours and am beginning to make some headway.

Question - did you write a custom script to interrogate the EE database, or did you go about it some other way? (I have a script running that can get an xml file from mySQL and then pass it to javascript for overlay but I haven’t hooked into the ee DB just yet).

Christopher - I also gave up Twitter a while back, forgot to update the signature. My bad.

Hi Adam

I’ve private messaged you about that, but there are no special scripts. I’m using a kml file that uses custom fields to show the camera icon -

<coordinates>{longitude},{latitude}</coordinates>

where {longitude} and {latitude} are the custom fields.
