I am seeking opinions not only EE’s capabilities of MSM, but other possible solutions for managing a large amount of EE sites at once.

I work at a web design company and our library of ExpressionEngine managed sites is growing. We foresee the possibility in the future, that keeping track of all of our different login could potentially be a hassle, or a time-waster.

What are some of the potential issues that could arrive with MSM, and how many sites can you add?

Is there a possibility that our programmer could attach a code on the backside of all these sites to allow us to log into multiple sites and have superadmin permissions on all of them?

You can not use the MSM to host client sites, as per the license.  Each client needs their own full license and installation.

That said, I personally think the easiest answer is a spreadsheet; but I’m a fan of simplicity. =)

Well, we’re not really planning on merging the database of two separate clients together, I do agree this would not be a good idea.

What we really need is a way to tie into the user authentication module.

Something similar to the mechanism that is needed for LDAP or other shared authentication schemes.
