This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I just tried the workaround given in the above thread WITHOUT success. So I have no idea how to get my comments.

Thanks for your help.
Dirk

Same problem here. The workaround did not work for me too. Maybe i don’t understand the querys posted by “drusoicy”. Do i need edit querys to fit moving from site_id=1 to any other new site?!

A solution would be very very appreciated.

Saludos,
Sven

Dirk, are you at a point in your site’s development where you could begin again without losing much time?  i.e. delete the secondary site you created that did not move the comments over, and create a new site that would import/duplicate your comments as needed?

Hi Derek,

I’ve just started to implement the new site/the new layout, so I wouldn’t loose much time of course. But I’m working on my live system. I don’t have a full backup system running.

If the site is not publicly accessible yet, and you can perform a backup / restore of your database, then please email me for a replacement file.  If it is publicly facing, perhaps there is a time of day/night that you could schedule downtime.  The simplest solution for you if you are not far along in development of the secondary site would be to use the update mentioned here.  It is working as intended on all environments tested so far, though there’s still a possibility of a timeout or memory error depending on your data, so you’d want to be prepared for a database restore in that unlikely event.

Hi Derek,

my existing weblogs of course are publicly accessible. The new site (with its duplicated blog entries) is not. I don’t exactly know why, but the workaround didn’t do anything. The table was created but the next steps didn’t took the comments to the duplicated blog.

I have a database backup, so I’m able to remove the new site and recreate it. If you have a new MSM version to test, I would like to do so. Does the duplication of a blog or the “old” workaround affect the existing blogs affect in any case?

Dirk

What version of MySQL are you using, Dirk?  If it’s older than 4.1, Nate’s nested query examples will not work.

No, the duplication of a weblog and its comments via the new implementation does not affect existing data.  Only the Import method does, which essentially moves the content from one Site to another.  Email me via my profile page if you’d like a copy of the updated MSM files.

Another less elegant solution is to export the original weblog in MT format and import it back.

@Derek

Database version is MysQL 4.1.22 - this should be no problem. I want to duplicate the content, to fine tune the new site (site 2) with my existing content. When it’s finished, the old blog will be removed from site 1.

The new MSM files should be able to handle that for you, Dirk, drop me an email when you’re ready.

Woohoo! It works. I deleted the new site with its missing comments and recreated it. With the new MSM files, comments are duplicated without problems and now I’m ready to go on, styling the new site. Thanks, Derek.

Best regards
Dirk
