This question may be related to a resolved thread.

Hello everyone:

I’ve done several upgrades since 1.4.2 and right now I am trying to install upgrade 1.6.4 and I receive the following error:

An error occurred while attempting to fetch your config.php file. The file seems to contain no configuration values.

I have backed-up the config.php and config_bak.php as well as path.php

They have the right permissions.

The files have content, they’re not blanks.

I cannot get to run the script. It is kicking the same error message.

I’d appreciate your prompt help

p.s. I can send you my config.php and path.php if you need to see it.

I see that when I access the CP it shows:

ExpressionEngine 1.6.3 - © Copyright 2003 - 2008 - EllisLab, Inc.
Script executed in 0.2831 seconds   14 SQL queries used
Build
:  20080626

Which would be this latest build.

Which file throws that error, update.php? It still sounds like a permissions issue of sorts.

The update.php file is throwing the error

I have given permissions 666 to config.php and to config_bak.php but still is having the same error. the document update.php has permissions 666 as well.

So you have uploaded all the new files. Does the site work normally as such? Going from 1.6.3 to 1.6.4 does not involve any database changes.

I haven’t activated the site (renaming index.html to offline.html and index_backup.php to index.php) but through the CP it seems to be all working o.k.

I am receiving the same error in another site we have and I upgraded to see if that went all o.k.

The latest build in those sites was:

ExpressionEngine 1.6.3 - © Copyright 2003 - 2008 - EllisLab, Inc.
Script executed in 0.5506 seconds   5 SQL queries used
Build
:  20080421

I still have other sites I would like to apply the upgrade, but if I have already two sites with the same error I don’t want that to happen in the other sites.

For troubleshooting, I had removed the config.php and confi_bak.php files, the error is the same, should’n it tell me that there is no document?

I also tried removing the path.php file, and again no different error, the error keeps saying

An error occurred while attempting to fetch your config.php file. The file seems to contain no configuration values.

I’ve put the files back where they belong but no fix yet.

/system/config.php
/system/config_bak.php
/path.php

Ludvik, did you at any time modify the config.php file by hand?

I modified it with gibberish after it didn’t work and following Derek’s comments in a posted thread about config.php being cached.

Then I just replaced it back with a back up that I had. I only modified it for one site, not for the other site that is showing the same error message.

Do you want me to PM you the config.php file? I have back ups of every build and version upgrade, and they all look alike.

Hi Sue:

I have sent you an email with the zipped file.

I also sent you what the permissions are set to for the files:

-rw-rw-rw-    1    698 Jul  7 09:34 config.php
-rw-rw-rw-    1    717 Jul  3 15:33 config_bak.php

Thank you.

It looks fine to me.. how wierd.

I’m not seeing anything at the beginning or end of the file.

I know, I have done this upgrade several times, with the many sites we have and the many versions since 1.4.2, I really do not know why it is not working.

Just a few minutes ago, I’ve made a successful new clean install of the 1.6.4 version on the same server, and it is all working o.k. We are creating another site.

If it was server related, I would think that would had not worked, but it all went smooth.

I have a couple sites on the same server with version 1.6.3 builds 20080421 that I would like to updtae, but what if it does give me the same error?

On this site with this error, I see that now the latest build is 20080626, does that mean that everything is updated but that the update.php didn’t work?

Sue et al:

I figured it out and the problem is fixed. It had to do with an include_path variable set in our php.ini file on the server, we have corrected it by just setting the script where required to that include_path.

Thank you,
Ludvik

Ah- I’m glad you tracked it down.  That was sounding pretty odd!

Closing this one out.
