Moderator’s note: Split from this thread.

Did you guys get this sorted? I seem to be having the same issue on a site I’m trying to get upgraded now.

Paul, I split this off into a new thread. Can yo give us some more information about your problem?

Everything will be good in the end. If it’s not good, it’s not the end.

Sure. I’ve moved the site to a new server, and all works fine, but I now need to upgrade from 1.5.2 to 1.6.3 (and will have to do 1.6.4 next). Having followed the instructions, the upgrade to 1.6.0 goes through OK, but when I try to upgrade to 1.6.1, I get the error about the exp_sites table already existing. It seems to be trying to run ud_160.php again. That’s the file that shows up in the PHP error messages.

Both config.php and config_bak.php are getting updated though. Just seems like update.php still wants to do the same update again and again.

I found that by renaming ud_160.php to ud_160.php.txt, as someone had suggested in another thread, I was able to get to the end of the upgrade process, but then the site was not working (blank front-end, blank control panel).

I’ll try again next week when I’m working for this client again. I feel like I’m getting closer. I was using the old pages module on 1.5.2, but I’ve followed the instructions there too before running this upgrade.

On a related issue, when I take a backup of the database, and restore on the new server, all my apostrophes and quote marks are changed to a funny question mark character. I guess this is something to do with non-matching character sets, but I tried a few approaches and it still keeps happening. I took the backup using PHPmyadmin, and restored using mysql on the command line. Again, any help gratefully received.

If the config.php is showing the correct version number?  It may be a cache issue- see this thread and this one for example.  IF the config is showing it correctly but it doesn’t seem to be recognized as such by EE- give that a try.

Make sense?
