hello everybody.

i keep having problems with login to my ee installations.
btw.: the whole backend/frontend/with cookie/without cookie/with session id/or mixed -security/login thing is totally confusing me.

however, i have two kinds of problems:

1.
user can’t login (backend). there is no error message.
ee adds a session id to the url but the user is constantly being redirected to the backend login-screen.
i tried the config.php stuff but no luck. this is critical since i need to change something soon.

2.
user is logged in (backend).
the user is super admin. the site is offline.
but the user can’t see the site.

The weirdest thing though is:

when i use cookies only, ee parses the session id within the templates everywhere i used

{path=“site_index”}

o.O
what’s that?

update:
on other ee installations i can’t log out.
i believe ee has problems if one is managing different sites
using different ee installations within the same browser.
gosh … sometimes i really like to throw ee out of the window … wink

these problems appear as soon as i change to »use cookie only« mode.
i’m using version 1.6.3. i have the index.php removed via .htaccess.

thanks in advance! smile

I think »i have it now«

using another browser or setting the security level via config.php and waiting some time seems to do the trick.
i can login again now on some of my ee sites (not all of them).

again, i think there might be a problem if one has more than one site runnning with ee and is using the same browser to manage them.
seems like multiple installations are confusing expressionengine??

Multiple installations should not confuse EE, unless you were all running from the same ULR. That said, it might well hve been a browser / cache issue, since it worked after a time (presumably after the cache had expired).

yes. it seems so. the one site i have problems with is a ee test installation in a subfolder
of the site i’m already running a ee driven website.
what will be the best combination regarding the different session types?
i would like to use just cookies since i then can stay logged in to the site.
gonna play around with the preferences a bit.

best, marcus

Could be the cookies conflicting- check the docs on cookie settings:

Cookie Path

This is an optional setting. You will only need to set this if you require a specific server path for your cookies. If you run multiple installations, or have your installation in a lower folder you can specify a folder from which to make the cooke available. If you set the path to /joe/, the cookie will only be available in the “joe” folder and any subdirectories of it. It will not be available in directories above /joe/. The vast majority of people will leave this setting blank.
Cookie Prefix

If you will be running multiple installations of ExpressionEngine on the same server then you will want to specify a unique cookie prefix for each installation. This cookie prefix will prevent the cookies from interfering with each other.

I’ve never needed to tweak it myself, but it sounds to me like you might need to.

That help get things working smoothly?  (And I’d run cookies fronend, cookies (or cookies and sessions) backend for both sites- personal preference thing.
