What is meant by this in the docs?

Note: If the Discussion Forum Module or Multiple Site Manager is installed, it is necessary to update them immediately after completing the ExpressionEngine update.

UPDATE: Just updated, but my admin panel is still reporting 1.6.3 even though the the Build number has been updated to “Build:  20080625”.

Is this normal? To my knowledge, I only have to update the following files listed below. I’ve verified that they are updated.

  *  system/core/
  * system/cp/
  * system/db/
  * system/language/
  * system/lib/
  * system/modules/
  * system/plugins

The first party add-ons for ExpressionEngine are closely tied to the base application, so in general, when you update one, you should update the other.

Re: your build number, it’s possible that your server is using a cached version of the config.php file, for example from eAccelerator.  If you open your config.php file in a text editor, introduce a syntax error (just type some gibberish), access your site, and then undo your change, that would force a cache flush.  Or if your config.php file was not writable at the time you performed the update, but the system was unable to detect that, the file may not have been updated with the new app version.

I’ve basically just updated the files as specified and backed up my config.php. I’ve the instructions specified, but haven’t had any success. The files that were in my system folders previously, I’ve backed up and reuploaded back to their original respective folders.

In short, will this become an issue for me? Have the update actually applied? I’ve followed everything to a key in the docs.

Just to be clear, what documentation should I be looking at?
In the docs, there are two different ones:
- Updating ExpressionEngine from an Earlier Version
- Updating ExpressionEngine to the Latest Build

I’m upgrading from 1.63 to 1.64.

Backed everything up and followed the first link.. Worked like a charm. It’s a bit confusing, the docs with 2 different sections for what I presume, is the same thing? I might be missing the point of having two entries, but than again, I’m not exactly the most knowledgeable with these things and just go with the flow. smile

Thanks!

You’re going from an earlier version, so you will need to run the update script, i.e. follow all steps outlined in your first link above.
