Hi everyone,

Ive just updated from 1.4.2 to the newest version. Ive followed the steps on the update tutorial yet have come accross this message when going into the update.php page.

An error occurred while attempting to fetch your config.php file. The file seems to contain no configuration values.

The config.php in the zip file is 0kb, thats right? Any help would be appreciated as while this isnt working my site is down.

Kind regards,
David

When you uploaded the fresh EE files, any chance you accidentally overwrote the existing config.php?  The new one is going to be blank- because it’s created and populated when EE is first installed.

If you open it up now?  The one on the server?  It’s probably blank.  In which case- did you make a backup of config.php before starting?  (The docs recommend that you do so- but if not, we can reconstruct one.  Just easier if you still have it.)

Also- shifting up to the install forum.

Thanks for moving it to the correct section and thanks for the quick reply. I backed up the said path.php and system/config.php as informed then removed them from the ftp, then put the new blank ones on the ftp. So no overwrite I believe.
Opening up the config.php proves its blank

OK- just delete the blank one, replace it with the one you backed up- make sure it is writable- generally chmod 666.  At that point- update script should see it.

Does that do the trick

Ah so simple smile

Thanks, just updated without a problem. I can get back to my control panel and all the data is still intact (this was my biggest fear). When I change the index.php.backup back to index.php it does mention “The system does not appear to be installed. Click here to install it.” however.

Hm- put the backup path.php file back- it’s possible there’s a blank one there as well.  That do the trick for the frontend?  (And definitely don’t re-install!  In fact- delete the install.php as well as system/update.php and the updates folder inside system.)

Whee!  Glad it was an easy fix- and very glad you backed those files up as per docs!  I’ll go ahead and close this one out.  (And enjoy 1.6.3- LOTS of new additions since the 1.4 branch!)
