Hi…

I’m considering using EE for a client’s new site.  I’m also considering Joomla.  The only major shortcoming of EE that I see is lack of event management/registration.  However…

I have a homegrown PHP/mySQL-based system that works quite well for my client.  Basically, it allows an administrator to set up a new event, creates a registration form for the event, and collects the registrant info.

My question is, what options do I have for “integrating” my system given that there is no current module that meets my needs.  (Sorry if I’m confusing EEs module/add-on/plug-in terminology.)  Are there informal ways of connecting an EE admin panel to my own admin panel?  (I fear that developing a full EE module will take many months.)

As an unrelated question, is it possible for an EE-generated webpage to pull data from a mySQL table that was created outside of EE?  Can I query and display data from my own tables?

Thanks in advance,
tarek

Hi Tarek,

We have a Developers section to get you started on the technical end of things. And yes, you can pull data from a mySQL table that was created outside of EE inside an EE generated webpage. EE allows you to enable php on a per-template basis which opens up a lot of possibilities. There is also a Query Module that may work for you as well depending on how you store your data.
