We have an installation that we heve been developing in for months.

Suddenly, the administration section’s css dissapeared???

The front end renders correctly, but all we get on the back end is clear text, with no formatting.

Kudos to you guys, everything still works w/o the css styling.

But how can I get it back?

Sure. There are a few common causes mentioned, it just might be one of them Let us know how it goes.

Solved.  Somehow the path to themes directory got funky(even though no one had changed it and it looked ok), I reset it and all is fine.
