Question about upgrading from 1.6.2 to 1.6.3

Hello!

I have two EE installs running on one server:

‘Production’ is installed at the root and I also have a ‘Development’ area installed in a subdirectory (we’ll call it /dev).

Both share the same /themes and /images directories found at the root but each have their /system folders and dbs.

Both are currently running v1.6.2 and /dev is running Forum 2.1.0 (build 20080319). I’d like to update just the /dev to 1.6.3 and the most recent Forum build (to hopefully get rid of a bug I think exists in the topic submission form). I just want to make sure that if I run the update within the /dev area it won’t effect anything in the production environment - before I pull the trigger. I’ve backed up my themes folder, but are there any other steps outside of the instructions (docs) that I might need to consider?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mary, as long as you don’t inadvertently over write the production code base, you should be OK.

I’m not sure if there were any theme changes between versions.

Just make sure you have a valid backup of your production and dev sites including the MySQL databases.

Please let us know what happened.

Hi Sue, Thanks for such a quick reply!

Am I correct in assuming that if I run update.php inside of /dev it shouldn’t reach outside of that directory?

That is correct. As long as you have two different MySQL databases.

Upgrade ran smoothly, but unfortunately did not resolve my issue. (I’ll post a thread in the appropriate forum for that though).

Thanks again for your help, Sue!

Everything will be good in the end. If it’s not good, it’s not the end.
