I have to input some data manually into exp_templates table. I needed to know that how is template_id assigned. Is the the next highest value ?

template_id int(10) unsigned No   auto_increment

It’s auto_increment, you don’t have to assign a number to it.

I’ve written insert statements to make templates on the fly.
