I brought myself a brand new iMac 24” yesterday.  I managed to get it all set up even and transfer my files from my MacBook to my iMac with a firewire cable.  This morning I even managed to hook up the airport express to my Sound System and set it up so now music from iTunes filters through the stereo.

I’m loving the size of the screen!  Its a little bigger than my 13” MacBook. 

So for those of you with mac’s would you bother upgrading your MacBook to run Leopard as well?  I only brought my very first mac (being my MacBook) last year so am still a total novice.

Anyway, just thought I’d share, I know its not about expression engine.  I actually do not know anyone else who even owns a mac so they just shake their heads at me in mild amusement.  Still I’m excited by it!

I just got a 24” iMac at work, and I love it. It’s an absolutely gorgeous machine. Now, if only I could convince my wife to let me buy one for home…

There’s yet another reason to remain single, I just have to convince myself!

Here’s a thought.  Wait till your other half is about to go on a shopping spree (dresses, shoes, bag to match) then nick out and get your computer…..

Unless you’re a clothes horse as well or your other half isn’t Then I got nothing.

Same hardware I have in my house, a 13” Macbook, and a new 24” iMac.  I would absolutely move your Macbook to Leopard as well.  The improvements to Mail.app, Finder, Terminal, and the new Quicklook are indespensible to me.  Which config of iMac did you get?

2.8GHz, 2GB, 320GB - just the basic off the shelf I didn’t upgrade anything but that is probably enough for me right now I’m not exactly a high powered user!  Still I’ve started playing with the video editing (on my MacBook) so it will be interesting to see how things go on the iMac.  I was thinking of upgrading the 2GB to 4GB but I’ll see how it all goes.

I’m guessing you would have your iMac customised with everything upgraded as much as you can given your occupation?

I tried to convince my boss today that I should go home because my iMac was only 3 days old and at home alone…. boss just shook his head and laughed.  Somehow I do not believe he thought I was serious…..

Well, I got the 3.0GHz 24”, but didn’t take any upgrades from Apple on it (hard drive and memory is all they offer at that point), as it comes with a 500GB internal and the Nvidia graphics card.  I did however make the jump to 4GB of memory, but not via Apple.  Just get a reputable brand that has good timing and you’ll be fine.  I personally like G.SKILL and OCZ sticks, both available very cheaply from NewEgg.com.  You can get a 4GB kit for $80 or less from one of those two manufacturers.

I use a 24-inch iMac at the office and love it. At home, I can usually be found using my 15-inch MacBook Pro, and love that too.

Just to add the recommendation, Leopard is definitely worth the upgrade on your MacBook. And the 10.5.3 update appears fairly imminent.

Thanks for the feedback on the Leopard upgrade guys I’ll definitely look into it. As for changing from 2GB to 4GB myself, um is that hard?  I’ve never fooled around with the inside of a computer before and I wouldn’t want to break anything.  That is a massive difference in price to the ones on offer on the apple website!
