Hi there, I recently (yesterday) purchased a commercial license for a new website, coming from wordpress I have to say I’m impressed about the features this engine offers.
I think this was a great decision.
Besides this commercial website, I have another project, that I was planning in developing with Ruby on Rails or Java with Struts2, because it needs very specific functions, among those the most important would be to be able to make an appointment.
So the system should have several calendars for different purposes where the user could select one and send an appointment request for a specific day.
So there will be 2 kinds of users, the ones that ask for appointments and the ones that give them.
This should be as automated as possible, and the user should be able to see his appointments at his own calendar.
So I’m wondering if this kind of functions can be developed from the expression engine.

So what do you guys think?

It sounds like what you’d like to do is accomplishable with EE. Just for reference—I have built about 8 or so pretty demanding websites with expression engine commercial, all of which were handled very well by the EE system.

You could possibly make a form that users can use to submit a request for an appointment, and then once they request it, an administrator publishes that appointment into a weblog. I believe there is a module you can install called FreeForm (by Solspace), for EE. Currently, I use a separate system called MachForm. You can create a calendar system very easily using expression engine. In fact, I just completed one, which you can view here.

I used this link to learn about how to create my own calendar:

Let me know how it goes!
