Hi

We would like to present you our brand new website

http://www.designchuchi.ch

we just finished building using EE.

As you can read in our blog http://www.designchuchi.ch/index.php/blog/comments/a_long_way_to_go we built the website twice - once using Drupal, once using EE. We will be posting soon what lead to the decision using EE and why not Drupal for this project but for others.

We’d like to say here that EE is a very powerful system and we really love it. Watch out for some nice articles about how our entire website is built up using:

- phpThumb for all image processing

- custom category queries

- using custom statuses as a super powerful feature

- and more

Your comments and feedbacks are welcome!

Designchuchi Team.

ExpressionEngine truly brings the nerd out in me. This is truly like drugs for four eyed geeks with window-thick glasses that they dare to call well, glasses. Yes, I think it’s more appropriate to call them portable-windows-for-the-head-for-the-vision-impaired.

Now, if only I can combine my two favorite things in the world.. Transformers + ExpressionEngine = Nerd Nirvana

Note to self: I am not a nerd. I swear.

Very nice work. Great choice of CMS wink

Nice to see really nice design that validates as well although I didn’t check all pages. There were a couple of alt tags missing on some images but other than that, really really good coding!

Nice work. Hope you get lots of work now. grin

Best wishes,

Mark

Will get into that, i’m sure it’s just alt tags missing in some EE loops smile

So Mark, all alt attributes should be fixed, i’ll gladly offer a beer to anyone who finds a page on the website that does not validate.

We even made it to the today’s editor’s picks on http://www.w3csites.com

So, after some feedback we decided to change the layout of the “skip to content” button to it is more prominent and can be seen easily.

We also added a “toggle header” button that slides up / down the header and keeps the state throughout the page. This is done through some ajax and php session checking in the templates, we will write a tutorial on this later in our blog.

Feedback is welcome.

Regards,
Peter.

Congratulation! I’ve been a fan of your work for a few years. The new site looks really nice, clean, simple and beautiful. (although I still prefer the older version)

Great site, very well done.

Question: How are you combining your javascript and stylesheets? Using something like this? http://rakaz.nl/item/make_your_pages_load_faster_by_combining_and_compressing_javascript_and_css_files

I want to reduce the number of HTTP requests I make doing something similar.

Again, nice site.

Hi

Yes, we were actually writing our own combine script and in the middle of it, we found the one from rakaz so we’re using it now.

We’ll be posting a blog series on building our site in EE including YSlow optimization (we went from grade D (58) to a B (78) in terms of speed optimization).
