make it go away. cry. a long-time beloved client wants it. because a site he likes runs it. i’ve never worked with it before and it hurts. make it go away. when you have to choose among evils, which is the lesser?? i’m thinking it’s not x-cart ... ...

thanks for letting me publicly sob.

I’ve used jShop before and while it is a good product it suffers from the same problem that all shoppping cart solutions do, in my view. That is that they are often over-complicated with too much functionality for the small business or individual client to grasp. If only there were a simple, safe, secure solution that allowed easy templating.

p.s. we have 30 days for a refund on x-cart ... any chance ... haha.
p.p.s. adorable kid. smile

People have said good things in the past on here about Shopify

And also there was some excitement about Magento on here a while back.

I haven’t used either, but both look like they might be the one.

I’ve looked at Magento and I agree it seems to be a very good piece of software. The only drawback for me at the moment is the lack of UK/IRL payment gateway support (ie. i can’t code my own)

btw. Do you think magento’s homepage has small echoes of this thread?

Yes most carts can be OTT for some sites, but then again about right or not enough for others. It all really boils down to what’s required by the customer smile

http://www.cubecart.com is another decent cart that’s easy to skin, CSS templates etc.

yes i have had easier success making cubecart fit in. the one i worked with was a little weird for other reasons—flow of checkout/admin and getting coupon mods in was a P-A-I-N (like getting a coupon mod installed in oscommerce, yuk). i think the newer one had some of these features built in and i may re-visit. thanks!

Yes Cubecart is very easy to set up, but then you start noticing the shortcomings which only bigger carts have out of the box! Sometimes you just can’t win but I always say it’s better to have a flexible system that can cope with anything even if you never need it.

I developed 4 sites using Cubecart. It’s quite simple and easy to customize, ideally for small shops.
