Before I purchase MSM, I just want to know how it all works out.. Are member account details shared among all the sites? I recall reading from another thread that it wasn’t, but than again, I figured that since one can draw weblogs from one blog to another, that it may be possible to achieve.

If I may have missed a thread concerning this, any links provided are appreciated.

Regards,
D.

Yes, members are shard between sites. If you take a look at eg codeigniter.com and expressionengine.com, you see they share a common db of members.

Ingmar,

I just noticed that! That’s great! Just had a quick question.. When MSM is used, do they all share a database, but assert different prefixes as defined by the administrator?

No, the MSM keeps sites apart by using a site_id for weblogs and data. Users could be separated into various membergroups.

Just to clarify - the MSM is an expansion to ExpressionEngine, not a separate product; therefore, it uses the same database and same tables as ExpressionEngine itself - including the same prefix.  As Ingmar said, site_id is used to defining that the appropriate site, when needed.
