I’m currently using Constant Contact (an email marketing service)—http://www.roving.com/—to distribute my newsletter. This service provides interesting stats such as “number of opens” and “click throughs.”

Does EE enable me to get this type of information from the logs or some other place?

No, the mailing list that comes with EE is fairly simple. If you have specific, detailed needs such as above, then you’re probably best off with the 3rd-party tool right now.
