I’m almost done building my first EE site. and I’ve learn enough through the process to have a better idea of what I would like to see in 2.0
The new CP looks great (besides the green…
so I won’t comment on some of the shortcomings of having to constantly go back and forth between the different admin tabs, I’m guessing most of this has been addressed from what I can see…
My wish list are mostly related to custom fields and flexibility.
#1 - a real “many to many” relationship between entries through a multi relationship custom field. Adding a bunch of “relashionship” fields doesn’t cut it in a lot of situations. Right now it can be done by the “Multi Relationship” extension but some of the EE tags don’t work with it. A native implementation would be great.
#2 - Separate and specific “file” and “image” custom fields + associated tags. The general “upload” function is too general, its associated popup window is too confusing for less tech savvy clients, and having an input field with a URL as a result is not user friendly. This image field doesn’t need all the bells and whistles of the gallery module. Just a thumbnail preview instead of the input field/URL. The tags could work just like the imgsizer plugin which is brilliant…
As for the file input field, it would be great if you could set the allowed extensions right when you define the field instead of having to modify the mime file in EE system. In terms of CP UI, just like the image custom field, it would show an icon of the file type instead of input field/URL and maybe a couple of options like “replace” (which would keep the download count the same) and “delete” when a file’s uploaded. In terms of tags, file_size, file_download_url, file_downlaod_count, would be a good start.
#3 - Better modular access control in the CP. Right now, for example, if you give access to users management in the admin area but nothing else to a group, they’ll still see links to all the other sections and get a “sorry just kidding” error message when they click on them. Not user friendly + give an idea of everything they can’t touch to people who might want to ask if they can touch when they see that… no good ![]()
That’s the main ones for me… Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for reading that far…
