1.6.x to 2.0 is “definitely an upgrade and not a transition”.
I like this! EE 2.0 sounds awesome, but all I have been thinking about is EVERYTHING breaking in the transition over to it. Definitely a relief to know that it’s considered and upgrade.
We really don’t know what that means. I am thinking lots of things are still going to break or generally not work. I don’t really need to rush out and update just for the sake of updating though. If updating will be a new project, then the site can stick with the 1.x branch.

Rumor is that after you upgrade from your previous version of EE to 2.0 that you must add the following meta tag to your pages to support the 2.0 standard features so that you don’t “break the web”?
My hats off and a standing ovation to the EE team. That simply rocks! Bravo!! And I personally love the look and feel of the control panel - the design, everything. I like the simple design, clean and usable with eye-catching colors. It feels modern and slick.
Yes, an alternate corporate, stuffed shirt version would be nice too. But this is just awesome! I can’t wait.
(ps - of course, I’m kidding about the meta tag!).
I just came back from a small vacation (first time flying ever to find this beautiful home-coming present in my RSS-feed. Me too thinks the CI / EE combo will be a great future, and i totally agree with Luke’s comments in this thread.
Mark, the interesting part is the way the CP is build up (jquery/ajax etc.), it’s not about which make-up is more beautiful, that’s mostly personal (Chanel or Loreal-Paris)
So when EE2.0 comes out, it brings a lot of goodies with it, but thats a good question, can you easily update your present EE to it. What im “waiting” is that the gallerymodule is more configurable and scaleable, that EE and EE forums would use the same user controlpanel, not separate, more flexible usermanagement and that commerce-pack also. WIKI must be done better to handle and manage. Its a total “im hitting my head to wall” to users who wants to use it. So more easily working wiki with better features would be nice also. Then would be nice that templategroups would be inside a group. So you could have templatemastergroup like “automobiles” and below that templategroupd like “audi” etc. Now the list of templategroupd are long as hell if you have many different weblogs and groups to those. More easier management for those i hope! I have a huge list what I hope but hehe, those are only dreams and i dont want to list all them here. Ive posted some FR but i dont think they come alive ever.
Still, build 20080401 either gives us hope that within a month something comes out or…that was there just for making us nuts of thinking when it comes…when it comes…
Too “candy"look for me that CP but i think everyone learns to handle it and the new way things are around in CP. Might took some time to work as fast as we do now when the CP is rebuild and stuff..dunno!
Two more things, i wish better video-adding/embedding feature to EE. Build in videoplayer with functions would be more than great! And what would be greater than EE-magazine module. With that you could start to make your own magazines, wow that would be soooo cool!
Cheers:

With the news that EE 2.0 will fully integrate with CI I’m very excited. I suspected that the back end might go wild with AJAX and am seriously hoping it is unobtrusive. Many of my not for profit and charity clients do not have javascript enabled within their networks. The change of architecture looks great though. Well done the dev team!
Yes hopefully (I’m sure they will have ) the back-end won’t be dependent on AJAX and it still works fully if Javascript is turned off. I’m sure they will have thought of this already but it would be nice to get some feedback on that.
can anyone tell me when te new version is official? I have yet bought a license and i am now working to build a new site for a large community. Can I wait for this new version or is this like the launch of Leopard?
The new version will be official when it is ready for download. That day will not be revealed ahead of time. Certainly do not hesitate to build your site on the current version. The best time to build is now.
So will we still be using the same method of ‘weblogs’, category groups, custom field groups, custom status groups and relationships and built with templates?
Oh and will we have better support for static pages including static sub-pages?
It feels modern and slick trendy and tired.
Yes, an alternate corporate, stuffed shirt sophisticated version would be nice mandatory too. —————
I guess it’s a combination of the colors and the bigness of everything I’m not liking at the moment.
Other than the style/design I’m looking forward to getting my grubby little hands on it :-)
Here’s the discussion thread! At 4am in the morning all I could find was this topic, so most of my comments have been posted there. Perhaps an idea to merge those topics?
I have to agree with PXLated I’m afraid (btw that’s not a dig at you PXlated! )
I think the design is nice but just not right for this kind of application. EE has very quickly grown into an outstandingly capable application and I just think that the design (again no offence to Veerle as she is an excellent designer) doesn’t quite reflect this. Of course we haven’t seen a final version or one with all the AJAXy goodness in it so I am definitely going to hold reservation until I too get my grubby little hands on it
