Expressions Engine site problems

New here, so I apologize if I am not following correct protocol. I did do a search on these issues, but could find nothing posted.

Under Blog and News, when I click on “continue reading” under second topic, Customer Service, Learning from the Masters, the page load just freezes my IE7. I cannot close IE and must reboot my computer. This happened three times.

Under the example “Atlantic School…” in the “showcase” section when I visit the site the home page loads fine, but when I click on any of the subpage links, there is at least a full screen of white space shown above the page content, which I can only see if I scroll down.

A curiousity is that even though I have visited the Expression Engine site several times, it never shows up in my history or autocompletes when I start typing the URL.

Hi ChecMark,

ChecMark - 02 March 2008 08:29 AM

I can’t replicate what you describe above in any browser, including my copy of IE7. Only thing I could find was a spare quote in a link that should not have been there. Maybe your install of IE7 is being extra picky.

Under the example “Atlantic School…” in the “showcase” section when I visit the site the home page loads fine, but when I click on any of the subpage links, there is at least a full screen of white space shown above the page content, which I can only see if I scroll down.

We have no control over these sites. EE is not an HTML generator. Its completely up to the site developer as to which browser they want a site to work in.

A curiousity is that even though I have visited the Expression Engine site several times, it never shows up in my history or autocompletes when I start typing the URL.

This is something local with your IE7 preferences, though I don’t know enough about IE7 to know what that might be. EE shows up in all my browsers histories just fine.

I can confirm Les’s experience on IE7/Vista.  For the issues you are having with our site, ChecMark, you might try disabling any third party tools you have installed.  Google Toolbar used to be notorious for interfering with web sites, for instance.  Also some security software such as Norton’s might require that you add our domain to a whitelist.

As the developer of this site I can confirm that on my Windows XP, IE7 I cannot replicate what you are experiencing. Derek and Les’s assumptions may be correct about IE’s preferences or a third party tool installed. I have a clean install of IE7 with default preferences and no third party tools installed.
I will be interested to hear what is causing the problem though.

I’ve had similar issues when I experimented with Google’s Web Accelerator (which now is very removed from my hard drive). hmmm

On the Atlantic School example I took some screen shots which hopefully will help. My IE7 is a new clean install just recently and I am not running any add-ons. I do have Norton Internet Security installed; however, after I disabled it and refreshed the pages I got exactly the same result.

Also, for whatever reason the forum would not allow me more than one attached file, so I will post another reply with just the second screen shot.

Further info on the Blog and News freezing up my IE7 - when I had first visited the site I had just turned my NIS pop-off blocker off in case there were any functions on the site. This last time, when my IE7 froze yet again at the exact same place - continue reading, I killed IE, disabled my NIS for fifteen minutes, restarted IE and went back to the Blog and News section. This time I can click on “continue reading” or “discuss” or anything else on the page just fine, so obviously NIS was the culprit here.
