Why does looking at web award finalists in any sort of “web award” competition thingy make me feel ill? I think I’m just anti-awards. I got in an argument with a former employer (while employed there...) about spending time putting together boards to submit some sites to “Addy” awards. They cared...I didn’t. I could have been working on another website in the time it took to put those boards together. smile

What do you mean by some ‘boards’?

I was referring to some presentation boards we had to put together of screenshots. You know, go to site, print screen, paste on board, show judge your website. In fairness, they did go LOOK at the actual sites. I think. They might have actually used the site too! Who knows?

Ding! 1,000th post for me! Ahh I’m flattered.

I’m sure some screenshots wouldn’t have taken that much time. Surely the opportunity costs were worth it.

I think Addy Awards are just judged by peers (don’t quote me) - so I’m not sure where the opportunity is, unless a future client happens to see a little icon you might put on your site that you’re a “winner” of some award they’ve never heard of. I’ve seen web guys put a whole row of award icons (like an “Addy” icon) at the bottom of their site - and for some pretty questionable awards.

I just looked at some entrants for the West Michigan Ad Club web category and had to laugh. I went to just one site to check it out and it...doesn’t...even...work. Why is it in there? Cause someone paid for it to be there and it “looks good”. This ain’t print, people!

I guess all I’m saying is - I’d rather do good work and have the client appreciate it then do work that really more-or-less just looks good and have peers appreciate it. I’m low-key like that.  smile But hey, if you need the eyeballs and advertising, go for it.

I’ll end my ranting posts and let this thread get back to business.
