It is valid, but you are seeing a recommendation (read:opinion) from the validator’s authors.  Here are the details.  That link identifies the feed’s URL so some readers can better cache it, or transfer a feed from one device or application to another and maintain the connection.  I don’t think that’s available to RSS, so you have to use the Atom namespace to benefit from it.

For what it’s worth, I find most of feedvalidator’s personal recommendations to be rubbish.

I just didn’t understand the atom reference on an RSS2 feed. They pushing atom or what lol.

Well, evidently, the RSS Advisory Board likes some of the functionality of Atom and recommends including the Atom namespace as a valid way of getting access to some of these features.  Who-da thunk it?
