i have released a Sitemap Module which you can find at:

http://www.putyourlightson.net/projects/sitemap

it automatically generates an xml sitemap of your site based on your configurations and notifies google and several other search engines when your site content changes.

What’s up with the site? When I try to navigate off the page linked to by the OP, all I get are 404 errors.

Hmm maybe usefull,

But to make it really good..
-Multiple Sitemaps (you cannot submit more then 5000 URL’s per sitemap)
-Auto make link of your static pages (pages module)
-Custom templates (now you have to have “group/template/entry-url-title") but i use “group/entry-url-title”
-Priority/Update frequency based on number of entries (latest 20 entries get higher priority?)

Just some idea’s to improve the module.

Anyway great start! Congrats

» Crawltrack Track Google/Yahoo/etc on your site
» EntryData (Get Custom_fields/etc without weblog tag)
» reCAPTCHA Extension
» Rewrite Redirect URL’s to new ones (301/302/etc)

markus: what pages are you trying to access?

victor: thanks for the suggestions! i’ll definitely look into the static pages idea and the custom templates is something i can add pretty easily.

Ben, I left a comment on your website. I didn’t see an email address to contact you there. I was not able to download. Thank you.

Can it ignore hidden templates or is that not how it works?

Rob: i have sent you an email, you should be able to download now

stinhambo: it uses weblog entries to generate the sitemap.  you can assign a template for each weblog.  so your question is not really accurate, but i suppose yes, it can ignore hidden templates.

Thanks Ben!  Great module!!  I have been running it for two weeks and keeping a close eye on googles sitemap tools to see how it is responding.  The site I have it running on is brand new, but it has been climbing quick.  We have a lot of new content coming in daily and sometimes hourly, so the fact that it pings automatically every time we submit makes it priceless!  I can’t imagine the total amount of time I have saved.

I’m very pleased!

Thanks again,

Rick

thanks, i’ve had a lot of positive feedback so far.

i have just released an updated version of the sitemap module that has some small new features that i hope will improve its usability.  the changelog can be seen here. one of the changes was suggested by victor, thanks!

any further feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated!

oh and the module works with EE 1.6.1

hi,
any one encountering similar problems like me?
This is the way a link looks in my sitemap: //en/article/berlin_treated_to_33_song_bowie_show_tonight 2007-04-18 always 1.0
link to sitemap: http://www.berlinista.com/sitemap.php
as you can see, the first part of the url is missing…
Ben didn’t know how to solve this problem - maybe one of you people out there.
Thanks!

hi,
i’m a looser baby - so why don’t you kill me…
sorry for that - got no info about your second reply… my fault
you were quite right!
as i had somebody build my site who doesn’t wanna help any further (after he got all the money) i’m quite helpless…
now i’m getting this: http://www.berlinista.com//en/article/berlin_treated_to_33_song_bowie_show_tonight 2007-04-18 always
as you can see i’m now having this double slash after the url to my site.
we are getting very close man!
just a little more help needed…
thanks’ a ton!!!
update: the double slash obviously doesn’t do any harm. now i got to check how google and google news can handle this.

hey thats ok.  from your control panel go to Admin -> System Preferences -> General Configuration and make sure that “URL to the root directory of your site” is set to http://www.berlinista.com (without the slash at the end).

that doesn’t change a thing.
anyway - i’ve just resubmitted the sitemap to google and i’ll do some new article for my website tonight.
if google accepts the sitemap and i can ping google - this should be enough for us.
so - let’s wait and see.
thank you so much!
