Global control over HTML formatting buttons

I notice that other members with publishing permissions can edit their own set of HTML formatting buttons in the My Account area. I think it would be good if a site owner could have complete control over this, if required. For example, I would like to be able to delete ‘u’ and ‘strike’ and to transform ‘b’ into ‘strong’ and ‘i’ into ‘em’ for all. Could this please be considered as a future enhancement? Thanks!

This functionality already exists under Admin | Default HTML buttons.

Hi, Bander!
Yes, I see the HTML buttons in the admin area and it’s great that they are there so that the defaults can be changed, but I believe that it is still possible for members to edit them under ‘My Account’. I would like to be able to prevent this. For example, I am aiming for xhtml 1.0 strict and I wouldn’t want members to be able to undermine this by editing their buttons and using <strike>.

Sorry for the obvious reply; it seems I didn’t read your post closely enough.  I can’t see any way to lock that out without hacking the backend scripts [which actually shouldn’t be *too* terribly difficult, if you’re halfway technical].  This is, of course, assuming you’re wanting to lock out everyone other than the admins.

In case you’re wanting to do this, the function is on line 1159 of system | cp | cp.myaccount.php.  I’m going to go hack my test copy to see if I can remove it from the profile without banning my own rights.  smile

Thanks, Bander!
I’ll have no problems with HTML buttons on my personal installation, but the one I am working on for work is a different ballgame. Ultimately, there are likely to be at least 50 or so members with publishing privileges on various weblogs and, given everything, I think it’s going to be best to stick with ‘safe’ HTML and a few formatting buttons. I’ve got the defaults as I want them and I’ll just have to hope that no-one edits them! At some point, I will probably create a private weblog just for site publishers, with a few hints, and hope that they read them. I probably sound like a bit of a control freak but my main concern is that the output remains valid, accessible and in keeping with what is already there (or, rather, what will be there one day in the distant future). I’m still very new to EE, and am still exploring the possibilities.

Ha - I’m nowhere near halfway technical, unfortunately! I took a look at the file and it frightened me silly - rather you than me on this one, I think wink
Did you manage to ban yourself?
