Hello guys,

First of all, I’m sorry if this feature request was already posted here. Anyway, here it goes:

My visitors in Macmania are requesting a feature that would show what news topics have been read and which ones haven’t. The important part of it is that the user doesn’t need to be logged in the system, it needs to work through the browser’s cookies.

Is that possible?

This sounds like a good candidate for a Plugin that someone could write.  I’d foresee the Plugin having two main parts:

1. A tag you’d place on a “single-entry” type Template that would tell the Plugin to write to the cookie that this particular article has been read.  Probably identify the article by entry ID.

2. A tag you can use (usually on a “multi-entry” type Template) to tell if the current entry has been read and then display something user-definable depending on whether it has or not.

That would be perfect, Chris. Unfortunately I don’t have enough knowledge to make the plugin myself, so I’ll just wait for someone that also needs it and knows how to write it to do it. I’m sure it’s a feature a lot of people would appreciate.

I’ll see if I can come up with something if no one else is already writing a plugin for this.

Well this takes me back to an earlier post of mine. This should be very easy to accomplish, but the problem is that for Chris Curtis method to work you’d have to pass the id of the entry to the plugin as the entries are being looped over. Nevertheless I have an idea that might work.
