It will depend a bit- if you can get them into MT format, EE has a built in MT Importer.  That’s what I generally prefer.  And as long as the old site is in a db, you can generally output to MT format easily enough.  See the wiki on importing.  Another option that some folks favor is the CSVGrab plugin- which basically let’s you import from a CSV.

So- just depends a bit on how the data are currently stored.  If it’s a db driven site, there should be a workaround.  (And if we get into details, I may shift this over to ‘How to’- depending).

hi

i am trying to use CSV Grab plugin to import the SQL, im just getting a blank page. i put the following code in a blank template:
{exp:csvee url=“http://www.thamesgateway.gov.uk/NewsItems.csv”
  weblog=“5”
  title=“1”
  skip=“1”
  delimiter=”;”
  encloser=”“
  use=“2|3”
  fields=“prod_description|prod_keywords” }

i view the template and i get a blank screen- is this correct?

im not too sure if im using the plugin correctly?

below are 2 entries from my csv file:
1;“Senior executive appointments announced at London Thames Gateway development corporation”;“The newly created London Thames Gateway Development Corporation ñ the organisation formed by the Government to deliver sustainable communities in the Lower Lea Valley and Barking/Havering Riverside has announced its first executive appointments.”;“1”;“0”;“6”;“2006-11-15 12:33:44”;“2006-03-22 09:09:09”;“2008-11-24 12:38:00”;“filesystem/Images/clg_logo_small.gif”
2;”£6 billion action plan transforming Thames Gateway to create thriving sustainable communities “;“A massive £6 billion programme to deliver high quality new homes   schools   health services   jobs   green spaces and transport links is transforming the Thames Gateway”;“1”;“0”;“64”;“2006-11-20 11:50:52”;“2005-03-31 11:50:52”;“2008-11-24 11:50:52”;“filesystem/Images/clg_logo_small.gif”

Is your data file still there? The link you posted isn’t found.

I had the same “blank page” problem when using the CSVGrab plugin as well. What fixed it for me was removing a stray “|” from the end of the “use” parameter in the template I was using to upload the .csv file.
