So, it looks like Technorati isn’t doing well…The CEO is out, eight employees were let go, it’s being run by a committee…and this from Mashable…
“a lot of their traffic comes from Technorati tags showing up in Google: those could be removed from Google’s index since Google doesn’t want search results within search results. Perhaps it’s time to get back to basics?”

Since I don’t do blogs where tags are the most common, I’m interested in others thoughts on this and tags in general. And, I suppose one could open it up to the fact that a lot of Web-2.0 companies/technologies will probably fail and go bye-bye. What are you using, how you gonna deal with it?

I’m glad I read this - just as I was getting ready to put Technorati tags in my blog.

I would say that you can put Tags in your blog, as long as you have the rel=‘tag’ Technorati will pick it up. As will other search engines. Leave Technorati out of the loop.

Daniel…
How are you using tags…putting them in a custom field?
Could you explain the rel=‘tag’

A client may add a blog to their site so I need to get my head around the Technorati keywords thing.
Not sure if they’ll pop for the Keywords module yet or not.

You could just put the rel=‘tag’ code in a category link. I list all of the related categories at the end of each entry with the categories tag and then use the rel=‘tag’ code to indicate it’s also a “tag” insofar as Technorati is concerned. This seems to have worked, as Technorati lists my most popular tags (http://technorati.com/blogs/www.indieblogs.com/vintage) on my blog’s profile page. I assume it would work most anywhere, then.

Thanks…am not necessarily planning on using categories as the keywords/tags as they will be far more numerous than categories.

My use of tags was more theory than practice. I knew from a technical side all you have to do is add rel=tag in the URL for the search to count it as such, but I have not used expression engine with tagging. I did just get the tagging module and am about to move my blog from wordpress to EE. Though I have no real world experience with tagging and EE.

Has anyone else been having trouble with pinging Technorati via EE at the moment?

I admin several different blogs and all of them are having trouble with pinging and updates.

I just manually (from the Technorati page) pinged them today, and they immediately picked up my newest post. Since I just moved my blog to EE, I didn’t know about the automatic pinging until just an hour ago. I set it up to automatically ping Technorati, but I haven’t done a new post yet to see if it works.
